Description
So stinking happy with how this came out. There are a few things I'd change if I were to do it all over again. But I will always keep them in mind the next time I make a sweater. If you want to make one of your own, I posted the cat chart and some of my notes here - [link]

Do you have the Bond knitting machine? I can never get that thing to work. I wish I could though. For now I'll stick with the needles.
I love how the cat came out so much! The ribbing on the sweater is really awesome too! Which bind off method did you use?

I do own a Bond. It's definitely got a learning curve to it.
I actually didn't do the ribbing portion top down like you see in the tutorials. I did a long tail cast on according to row 1 of the chart (I had 3 balls of yarn on the needle when it was over)and then transferred the stitches to the machine. After I did the all the ribbing rows I just put the latch hook in the bottommost stitch, dropped the stitch all the way down, and then hooked it back up with the knit stitch facing me. (kinda had to work the stitches under the intarsia threads along the back though). After the piece was done all I had to do was cut the elastic. The cast on tails took care of closing any gaps made on the sweater edge by the color switching.
There are more notes on the blog entry I posted a few comments below this one. If you can do intarsia, you can make this.

I'll have to try getting more practice with the intarsia. Every time I try to follow an intarsia pattern on the machine the way that they instruct me to do it on the DVD it gets pulled out and drops stitches.
I'm wicked awesome at using the straight needles, but using the machine would save me a lot of time and I could get through orders so much faster.
I'll check out your blog and read up on this. Thanks!

I didn't design the original sprite with the sweater but I know what you meant. I did make this one from scratch.
The base sweater is just a plain drop shoulder sweater with a crew neck. There are a lot of free patterns out there for sweaters of that type. I used a software called Sweater Wizard to design the base sweater but that's not required. I posted the cat chart on my tumblr if anyone else wants to give it a try.

A little less than two weeks to actually make it after some time planning it. In all fairness I didn't do this one by hand. I own a simple manual knitting machine. This is the first sweater I've ever made with it.

Yeah. The Bond (or the "Ultimate Sweater Machine") is actually available at most big box craft stores in the US (and the coupons work on them). I got mine from ebay. But for a "better" machine, even just a better manual one, the price jumps considerably. There is just no way this thing was designed for anything other than home use.
It has a frustrating learning curve though. My first project actually took more time on the machine than it would have if I knit it by hand.
