It isn't supposed to be. Bryke said there's a second season and they're working on it. I think it'll be more standalone than the original series, though. Especially since they didn't agree to a second season until it was too late to redo the first.

I think Tarrlok's story and the fight between the Fire Nation ships and Equalists took waaay too long. All that time could have been used for other things so it wouldn't seem so rushed.
