Description

Finally finished her monster form. I had drawn half of it then forgot about it and recently rediscovered it while thumbing through one of my sketchbooks. Unfortunately, the scanner cut off part of the tails.

A Tora-jin's manticore form is based off the manticore of folklore. In some stories, manticores have either a scorpion tail or a tail like a club so I chose both characteristics for their design.

Here is a little more info about a Tora-jin's manticore form:

The Manticore form is much larger and stronger than the commonly used Tora-jin form and is more ferocious looking. Due to the drastic change in physical characteristics, visitors to the planet thought that this form was a separate species.

The surviving Toraj-jin want to keep this form a secret from the PTO and use it to kill low ranking soldiers.

A manticore can be compared to the beast form of Zarbon's species and the oozaru form of the Saiyans.

This form is primarily used for hunting but is also used during reproduction. Males use this form to fight for dominance with each other and the females will use it to test a male's stamina.

The markings of a Tora-jin become more untamed in appearance and their fur becomes spikier giving them a more feral appearance.

The longer arm length allows the manticore to wrap its arms around the neck of their much larger prey and hold on to it in order to stab it with the venomous barb at the end of the thinner, whip like tail. The venom is a mild neurotoxin that temporarily immobilizes the prey depending on the dosage and size of the animal.

Prey that aren't killed will recover and live to forage another day.

The bristly fur of the thicker tail clumps together into quills and those, in turn, clump together to form large spikes and is used as a club for defense against rival predators and other Tora-jin. Like the tail of a porcupine, the quills are released on contact.

In this form, the muzzle lengthens and the canines become longer and more tusk like and are used to puncture the windpipe of their incapacitated prey. The bite force is helped by the manticore's powerful neck muscles.

Like the Saiyans, a manticore has a ravenous appetite. This is because of their high metabolism and the stress of the transformation burns up a lot of the body's calories.

Rumors are spread among the soldiers of monsters that can eat an entire man, bones and all, and leave nothing but a puddle of blood. Some claim to have glimpsed a shadow or the glow of an eye but those who have seen a manticore up close are never seen again........
