:// Hybrid Tutorial - Part 1
D E S I G N

With the breeding freeze coming to a close soon, we figured that a little tutorial on how hybrids work would be helpful! The next tutorial will cover 3 color hybrids! Please feel free to comment with any questions that you may have that weren't covered by this tutorial!

Also, a minor PSA:

Please a link to the group note where your genes were rolled when you submit your foals, and make sure which foal you are designing is made clear. Linking the parents will also help streamline the process.

This is sure helping a lot ^^
But I have one last question...
How can I use the method you use for the colors when I have a hybrid of three colours ?

For three or four color hybrids, I would recommend doing a gradient between at least two of the colors for a base coat, and using the other remaining color(s) for markings or mane/tail color. Also use primal markings from any of them to help show that you've included those colors.

Hopefully that helps! The more hybrid they are, the harder they get for sure.

Thanks ^^
I'll try that ^^
Actually, this is my first time designing a peafrie foal in general so I am totally nervous ^^'
But your tutorial helps a lot and gives me some good ideas ^^

I have a question, how do I design a Bilateral Gynandromorph? Is one side peahen colored and the other side peacock colored? There's no info chart on them, and I need to design a Bilateral Gynandromorph peaturk

Yes, that's exactly how you do it. C:

Let me bow down to this.
I blame you for dragging me back into the breed only by reading that tutorial.

YAY!!!!!!
Awesome job, its really easy to understand.
Thank you so much for this. ♥

Also
can we grab colors from the sample peafowls on the charts? (for colors not found within the base markings of sire and dam)
I saw that browns appeared. And i didn't see if that was listed as an acceptable place to grab colors from?

Thank you! I am glad it's helpful! C:

Yes, you may definitely grab from the sample peafowls, that's where most of my colors were grabbed from. I'll make sure to make that clearer. C:

What exactly are the primal markings?

pony-bones In reply to Emma1996nl [2015-10-07 12:34:51 +0000 UTC]

The markings that are actually physically on the peafowl examples.

And with the peafowl examples you mean the birds on color sheets?

Hey I have some questions about markings! I tend to mutate the markings to blend both parents' together. This way it may not look as if they come from the parents. Is this okay? I can upload a good example of real foals I intend to submit after the freeze.

Hmm...it's hard to say without seeing what you're talking about. I'd love to see some examples!

Kalik-ing-Away In reply to pony-bones [2015-10-07 16:18:38 +0000 UTC]

My main example is here If you take a look at the eye marks, they're the most obvious thing I'm asking about.

Another example, in a more subtle way, is here Again, the face markings are the more obvious of them, but I tend to try and mix all markings.

pony-bones In reply to Kalik-ing-Away [2015-10-07 16:45:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, definitely. That's what I did for this tutorial too. It's better to mix them. I was just worried that the mix was not as obvious as it should be.

This is really helpful for someone who struggles with these hybrids!  Could you clarify for me, how you go about getting that spectrum of color you show for the man.tail and body?  Like where do you sample the color from to get the two opposing points?  If that makes sense XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pony-bones In reply to DanceswithDaemons [2015-10-07 06:21:04 +0000 UTC]

Glad to hear it!
To get the spectrum, I sample from the base color of the body of the parents for the one color, and then the main body color of the peafowl of the opposite gender. For example, I color picked straight from Arctic's coat, and then blended it in with the soft brown of the female Pink. Does that explain a bit better? C:

Collie-studios [2015-10-07 00:26:26 +0000 UTC]

This is amazing! Thank you!

I do have a question. If the foals perhaps have grand parents with interesting markings that aren't displayed on the parent, is it okay to use those as inspiration or incorporate them into the design? and if so how far back can we go?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pony-bones In reply to Collie-studios [2015-10-07 00:53:32 +0000 UTC]

They CAN use the grandparents markings, however any further back are lost.

I'm glad you like it. C: I hope it's helpful to you!

Wow looks great! I was wondering what people could do wrong, it's such common sense stuff. It's great to see it all laid out. I love the description of markings on the examples as "primal" markings. I always have the original peafowls out when I'm designing a peafrie foal. Overall just really well done tutorial! I know all of us have made a few near-chimeras in the beginning, some of my first foal designs make me shudder now. It does take a bit of practice, so hopefully this makes it easier for newbies to get the hang of it! <3

pony-bones In reply to daughterofthestars [2015-10-07 00:03:20 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much, Kate! C: It is definitely challenging at the beginning -shoves her 'chimeric' hybrids under the rug-

I thought another example of how these creatures are created would be helpful, especially for those that keep making the same mistakes and have a hard time without a visual representation of what's going on.
