A commission for featuring his pegasus, Tempest Sketch, and his favourite raider, Nell Clearfield.

In a quiet moment, Nell finds herself succumbing to grim memories from her past, but fortunately, Tempest is there to remind her that her scars are behind her.

Nell has been called many things: brash, confident, arrogant, carefree, good humoured, sexually aggressive... but there are very few who would ever describe her as vulnerable. And for good reason! Outwardly, Nell is too busy having fun and living life to be weighed down by sombre thoughts or melancholy, and yet, in quiet moments of reflection, even Nell cannot escape her demons. Forever marked with scars, Nell's body - for all it's perfection - will forever remind her of darker times. Abuse. Punishment. Betrayal. Every scar is a stepping stone on her path from innocent victim to brutish raider, a full retelling of her life's most painful and miserable moments. The story she carries on her skin is a heavy weight, and as ugly as the scars themselves.

And so, feeling lost and alone in dark thoughts, a warm touch reaches her. Her wet hair is brushed aside and she feels a soft kiss directly on her scars. A small smile reaches her lips as the painful memories loosen their grip, and a different reminder pushes to the fore of her mind: I am accepted. I am safe. I am loved ~

So this piece was a new challenge! As it turns out, I haven't really drawn many (or even any) true profile shots before, and so trying to draw characters from a side-on perspective proved a little trickier than I thought. At first glance, I wasn't so sure it was going to turn out well, but thankfully it somehow came together, and the finished product is looking pretty great in my opinion The subject matter of this piece also allowed me to revisit a certain aspect of Nell's updated design that - till now - had not been portrayed: her scars. Or to be more precise, her back scars. Nell's story is not a pleasant one, and so given what she has been through, I opted to increase the number of scars to better reflect the terrible life she lived growing up, a life she has happily left behind.
