A coloring tutorial! Finally! I hope you guys find this helpful. If you have any questions, please ask! I also have a Pen Tool Tutorial if you'd like to go back a step and start at Lineart 101.

I had no idea that SAI doesn't have gradients. *A* I'm glad you found at least some of the tips helpful though!

This is a really interesting method for (hair) colouring and I like it very much, I think it should go faster with it. I will try that the next time.
Though I am a little bit confused about the gradients. I have never worked with them much..so can you explain how you can colour with gradients a little bit more detailed, please? It would be great to know.

I can't add too much to the gradient coloring process outside of what I already stated. I'm not a color expert, so you have to just go with what looks and feels right for you and your art.
You could also look for color theory tutorials on dA if that would help. If you need help actually setting up your gradient, locating the tool, etc. I can certainly help you to that capacity.

Yes I meant to ask not about colours and everything,
but about the process of the colouring.
Just like you said - help with setting up the gradient on a layer and things like that.
I just know how to use gradient for the whole picture e.g. for the background, but not for smaller parts like the hair.

Oh! That's really easy. :3
- Make a new layer under your lineart.
- Color the hair with one color using the airbrush/whatever tool you want, clean up the edges, and then lock the layer.
- Open the gradient tool. Go to "simple gradients" and replace the two colors already selected with two colors of your choice.
- Paint the gradient over your locked layer.
- Make a new layer. Use the airbrush tool to place your shadows. Use bring green, red, etc. Lock the layer.
- Make a new gradient and paint over the shadow layer.

She's wearing a beige dress, so her belly button shouldn't show. ;3

This is actually a really interesting insight into how other people work. It's nice to see something different to the standard 'here is a base colour, a light colour and a dark colour. draw until it looks good' approach

Thanks! It always takes me a long time to complete my art, so when I can find a methodical approach like this, I really embrace it. XD It saves time and keeps me from getting frustrated.
