Description
This is a video accompaniment to my Pen Tool Tutorial , which you need to read over first before watching this video. (Or else this will make no sense!) XD
I'm posting this video with hopes that it will answer some common questions I've been getting about the pen tool, but deep down, I know it's only going to inspire a million more. XD
Still, I hope that by watching my workspace and the process of making a few lines, you'll be able to get a feel for how you can/should use the pen tool for lineart. :3
The video is rather small, so many of the details are lost. D: Try to watch the video at the largest size possible, and again, for in-depth instructions and visuals, check out the written version.

okay this may be kinda confusing but when I try and make a curve on a line it like makes two lumps... ? does that make sense?? and it fills it in (like a shape)
sorry i can't describe it better. ^^'

You made it look easy. xD As for my part, I gets frustrated to get the pointers and the anchors the way I wanted to even though I use the CTRL button. 3: Yes, I have Adobe Photoshop CS3. xD I'm used to the CS4 or Elements or Paint shop pro 8.

Just keep practicing! Lining up the anchors isn't something that can be taught; you just have to keep trying, and eventually it'll feel natural to you. :3

I have a n00b ques. for you:
are those default (stock) brush strokes you applying to ur paths?
or did u make them? or download it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Popo-Licious In reply to Sop-sama [2011-08-23 03:38:27 +0000 UTC]
I'm using the default brushes that came with my copy of Photoshop. :3 Pop open the brush selector, open the drop down and hit "reset brushes." Select the first option. The magic is in the pen pressure and minimum diameter settings. :3

I see (and I figured as much)
I'll be getting myself a bamboo tablet+pen sometime next month,
I already made the order
when I get it, u cud say, I'd be in business once I get the hang of using it
btw thanks for the demo video to supplement ur tut...
using the pen to trace is a simple matter of tapering the paths to your original sketch.
but it's not as easy as it sounds, when it comes to doing work with a lot of detail in it...
I'm still trying to get the hang of vectors with my mouse...
which I find to be a lot of work...with all the fixing and adjusting of curves in the paths. not to mention that I have to close my open paths, if I want to start filling it with color...

Do you mean how do you use the tool to actually draw the line? Just right click > stroke > select the brush from the drop down > press okay. :3 If you want to change your brush settings, you can change them before you start using the pen, or you can click on the brush and change your settings and then return to a pen tool path you've already drawn. :3 If you haven't read the actual written tutorial, all the answers are there. :3

But did you have to pick elevator music?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Popo-Licious In reply to GingerJuju [2010-10-30 04:11:52 +0000 UTC]
It's from Cowboy Bebop, by the famous composer Yoko Kanno. I would love it if they played her music in an elevator. XD Do I really need to tell you to mute it if you don't like it...? And what would you suggest, in case I do another one? XD

I guess you can say I'm fairly new to Photoshop. I got one around last December. I've picked up on alot but! I have Elements though.
Do they even have a pen tool? Or is it for the more exspensive versions like CS5 for example?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Popo-Licious In reply to InuKagomeluvrs [2010-10-29 14:09:06 +0000 UTC]
Products in the Elements series do not come with the pen tool, unfortunately. If you want the pen tool, you'll need to get the full version of Photoshop or any of the Creative Suite versions. :3
