why is everyone comparing this to Attack on Titan, it's more like Neon Genesis Evangalion...and I had an Eva movie marathon before seeing Pacific Rim...best use of a day ever!

I'm not entirely sure why everybody is comparing Pacific Rim to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Evangelion is a complete deconstruction of the mecha genre, as well as a deep character study. Pacific Rim is straight up mecha in every way, shape, and form. The "monsters vs. robots" theme wasn't even new in Evangelion. It's not even important. Plus the fact that Evangelion doesn't even have robots in it.
TL;DR, Pacific Rim has more in common with Godzilla and other mecha/kaiju films of an earlier era.

fair point on both accounts...I guess I'm sick of people talking about AOT, I've got nothing against the show (given that I've never seen it and have no criticisms on it) but it has even less to do with mecha than Eva.

AoT is getting lots of (somewhat) annoying attention, I'll give you that. But it is deserving of that attention. It's really good, I'd check it out if you haven't.
I wouldn't say people are comparing AoT to Pacific Rim, but people are joking around with the term "Jaeger". (Jaeger is the last name of the main character in AoT, and the name of the mechas in PR.)
