Silence. Laying on his back for what seemed to be hours, not much else could be heard from Mat’s resting room, beside his seemingly intense staring contest with the ceiling. But one quick look at his tired,hollow expression could easily tell that he didn’t care much who won. All the events that happened to him, in addition to the loss of his arm, left him completely shattered and lost. In toughts.He did occasionnaly gave a few gazes to his protégé, sleeping on the bench near him, letting out a weak look of both sadness and relief.

After what seemed like an eternity , he gave her one last look, before turni ng his back on her. He closed his eyes and let out a small sigh.

‘’Before you start lecturing me, i want you to know that i take all responsabilities for everything that happened……. and that…… i’m really sorry.’’ He said before looking down at his bed with a very tiredexpression. Vegetax’s projection was floating right behind him with a somewhat annoyed look on his face.

‘’ You know… i consider that i have been pretty patient with you since the very beggining boy. Very patient.’’ He said casually. ‘’ How many times did we get into trouble due to your accursed foolishness, your dimwitted decision, your carelesness, i cannot even recall. One lose counts after a while.’’ The parasite then furiously gazed behind him with his glowing, yellow eyes.

‘’ But of all the foolish things you have done so far, this one trumps the others by MILES AWAY! YOU TRULY OUTDID YOURSELF BOY. YOU ACTUALLY COSTED US YOUR ARM AND MY PRECIOUS FRONT LEG! I HOPE YOU’RE PROUD OF YOURSELF!!!’’ He lashed furiously at his ashamed host, before floating right next to him in anger.

‘’YOU ALMOST GOT BOTH OF US KILLED BACK THERE! IF IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FOR THAT FEATHERY FRIEND OF YOURS, WE WOULD BE SIX FEET UNDER BY NOW!’’

‘’ Look, that kind of stuff never happened to me before. The confusion of this messtook the better of me! I’m sorry, but please, try to understand that i…’’

Before the hare infected could finish his sentence, Vegetax swept right in front of him. ‘’ NO! I AM SICK OF YOUR EXCUSES! SICK OF SUFFERINGYOUR INSUFFERABLE ACTIONS AND REASONINGS! THERE ARE GOING TO BE MAJOR CHANGES AROUND HERE FROM NOW ON, SO I SUGGEST YOU LISTEN VERY WELL WHAT I’M ABOUT TO EXPLAIN, BECAUSE I CAN ASSURE YOU THE LOSS OF MY PRECIOUS LIMB IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WILL BE EASILY FORGIVEN! I CAN TELL YOU THAT MUCH!’’

A few minutes went by as the hare infected stayed silently, , listening to his parasite to what seemed to be the harshest things ever said to him. Shadows invaded his eyes as he seemingly was done listening to the small hare.

‘’UNDERSTOOD?!!’’

‘’ ……….understood.’’

‘’ Good! I’ll leave you to rest now, but rest assured this matter is far from being over! Do try to stay alive until then boy!’’ Vegetax then dissapeared, leaving his host to the slilence of the room for a few moments, before he put his head in the palm of his hand in annoyance. ‘’ UUUugh…. FML!!! ’’

‘’AAAAH!’’

The hare infected suddently got startled! He turned around to see Florence looking at him in disbelief . Tears then proceeded to drip from her eyes as she shifted to symbiote and started to sob in front of him.

‘’ Oh……, sorry Florence. I didn’t meant to wake you up like that. You must be very tir…’’

‘’ MISTER HAAAAARE!!!’’ Florence suddently glomped him in tears, crying as hard as she seemingly could. The news that he was in fact alive, apparently didn’t reached her yet, as she fell asleep hours ago. Her tight embrace actually kind of hurted him, but he couldn’t help but let out a small smile.

‘’ UUUUH… I… I WAS… I WAS CONVINCED YOU WERE… THAT YOU WERE…. UUHH… UUUH…’’

‘’ It’s okay Florence, i’m fine. You don’t have to worry anymore. I’m back.’’

It isonly at this momet that she noticed that his left arm was missing from his body. She got startled and backed off from in surprise, pointing at the missing limb. ‘’ AH… AAAH! Your… your arm. Where is your arm???’’

‘’Oh… yeah, huh…it didn’t… really made the cut in the end huh? Ha ha…’’ He said jockingly in an attempt to ease her. But it proved to be futile, as he quickly noticed her tears switching from joy to sadness, as she started to cry even more.

‘’ This…. *hick*, This is all my fault.’’ She said sadly. ‘’ If i… if i would have been more careful…. none of this would have happened.’’ Mat looked at her with his tired eyes and sighed deeply before putting his hand on her head.

‘’ Florence...you don’t have to feel guilty about anything that happened last night. The only persons to blame for this terrible incident are this accursed snake guy…. And i.

‘’What? No… it… it wasn’t your fault, it..’’

‘’ Florence, listen. I’M the one who got careless and let that man snatching you away! I’M the one who chose to fight him by myself. I’M the one who let his guard down and let him do this to me. I’M the one responsible for everything that transpired that night. It was MY mission to protect you, MY responsability. None of what happened was even remotely your fault, so you don’t need to feel guilty about anything. In fact, i want you to promise me youll never blame yourself for what happened ever again. Do we have a deal?’’ He said to her with a stern look. She looked at him a few seconds and hesitated before looking down and agreeing.

‘’ I……. fine…… i promise.’’ Mat then followed up with a smile. ‘’ Good! ’’

‘’Still…’’

‘’ Hmm? ’’

‘’ I see it now… what you meant.The danger of missions.’’ She said while curling her arms around her legs. ‘’ Seeing everyone fight like that… it was so intense and scary, but beeing all by myself….alone… at the mercy of that monster.’’ She said with tears flowing down her cheeks. Mat tightly held his side, at the tought of the horriffying exerience his pupil had to endure because of him.

‘’ I… i was so scared… without you at my side… i… i really tought i was gonna…’’

‘’ See, this is exactly why i didn’t want you to join this army in the first place. I’m glad that you finnaly understand what i meant.’’ At those words, the hare infected helded his side even tighter. ‘’… That said. I’m terribly sorry that i let such horrific things happen to you. I… i don’t know if i’ll ever be able to forgive myself. Talk about a lousy guardian.’’ Mat then paused for a shot moment.

‘’ In fact….. perhaps it would be better if… you tought about finding someone else.’’

Florence’s eyes suddently widened at what she heard and looked at him in disbelief. ‘’ Wh… wha? But why???’’ She exclamed!

‘’Protecting you is something that i have done daily since i met you. Yet, one little mission that involve an actual life threatning situation, and looked what happened. One doesn’t have to think too hard about it to see i’m not made for this after all. I don’t deserve to be called your guardian.

‘’ But… but you did protected me! You managed to find me and save my life!’’

‘’Yes, but in the end,what are the results of this mission for me? Loss of a limb, a child probably emotionnaly scarred fore life and almost actually dying. Doing something that i’m supposed to be actually good at. Is that really the type of person you wish to rely on in times of needs? Because i’m not sure i personnaly would. And this is not mentionning the fact i am now a crippled man. ‘’

‘’ I don’t want to do this, but i don’t want your life to be at stake once again because of me Florence. This is why i think you should probably look for someone more viable to protect you from now…‘’

‘’I… i don’t want anyone else as a guardian beside you. Not as long….. you are still among us!’’ She said with a trembling voice. Mat could only look at her confused’’

‘’ …..Why? Why do you want me so badly? What on earth do i have that others don’t? I’m just…’’

‘’ Do you even have to ask? Of course i could replace you with someone else willing to protect me…. Like miss Anne or others friends we made. But…’’ She then paused a few seconds before looking down at herself and look back at his mentor.

‘’… but you’re the one who’s changed my life entirely Mr. Hare. Since the day we met, you have always been so kind to me and protected me as much as you could. You always took such good care of me, even tought you totally didn’t had to. ‘’

‘’ You’re… you’re like a father… or an older brother to me. You’re… like the family i never had. How could i possibly replace you with anyone just like that?

‘’I…. understand that you feel bad for all the mistakes you made, but… it’s not a reason to give up everything just because of it. I make mistakes too, we all mess up sometimes. This is part of life!’’

She then came closer to him and grabbed his hand before looking at him in the eyes. ‘’ We can either let what happened to us bring us down and hinder our lives…. or learn from it and use it to better ourselves.’’

Mat simply stayed silent with a sad look for a few more seconds, before sweeping his hand off the little girl’s. He looked at it and greeted his theets before making a fist and punching himself in the face as hard as he could. Florence backed off in confusion, wondering what had gotten into him.

‘’ Wha… what are you…?’’

‘’ Needing to be lectured by a beast… then by a 10 year old kid in the same hour. He’s right, i really am an idiot!’’ He said frustrated before looking back at his protégé with a small smile.

‘’ Forgive me Florence. I don’t know what had gotten into me, i guess i really was just down from everything that happened. I needed someone to knock some sence into me. I’m... grateful that you gathered the courage to slap me with that bushy tail of yours.’’ He said with a chuckle. Florence replied with a small laugh of her own, glad to see him finnaly smile.

‘’ Hee hee… i …i was kinda scared how you would react, it’s nice to finnaly have you back.’’ She said happily.

‘’You’re right Florence. We shall learn from all of this and grow stronger. This is also a promise!’’

‘’ Right’’ She replied while waving her tail.

‘’But for now, i think we should take it easy for a while. The past few events have obviously been pretty exhausting in body and mind for both of us. We need some rest.’’ Florence nodded, before looking at his missing limb again.

‘’ This is really terrible… the loss of you arm. This is gonna be so weird, does it still hurt?’’

‘’ Not anymore, but it does feel really uncomfortable. I’m gonna have to get used to it either way’’

‘’ Oh! But you could get a prosthetic like miss Anne right? Then everything would be allright.’’ She exclaimed. ‘’ The hare infected responded by looking aside with a serious look.

‘’ Hmm… maybe later. It’s a bit soon to talk about that yet…’’

‘’ By the way, could you tell me what that awful man did to you to end up like this? Did you take care of him?’’ What happened to him?’’ Mat suddently froze to the question. He knew he would have to answer it one day or another. He pondered a few seconds before responding.

‘’ I… i don’t know what happened to him. After he bit me, we both collapsed of exhaustion around the same tim. I was in a critical sate, Gale didn’t had time to look around.’’

‘’Oh…’’ She replied with a kind of an indifferent tone.

‘’Hum, by the way, i hope you thanked Gale for bringing you back to safety at the base.’’ He said in an attempt to change the subject.

‘’Aaah, no, not yet. We were so worried about you and he left so quickly. I didn’t took time to proprely thank him.’’ She then jumped from the bed and headed towards the door. ‘’ I’ll go find him right now. Don’t you go anywhere allight? I’ll be right back!’’

‘’ Hmm, i’m not exactly in shape to go wherever i please anyway now, am i? I’ll see you later dear.’’

‘’ Kay!’’ She replied with a smile before leaving the room. Mat then stared at the door for a moment, before letting out a huge sigh. Laying back on his back, his glowing eyes slowly closed themselves. Feelinga mix of relief and worrys, knowing what was awainting him ahead.

Ugh... there are so many things i want to say. One year! It's been over ONE YEAR since i submited the ending of my last mission. I can't stress enough how shitty i feel for not doing shit for so goddamn long. Given, the main reason nothing was done is because i really wanted to make the follow up as a comic. the mission itself was all written, so i felt i had to compensate by drawing the next part. Infortunatly, it was once again something that was too hard for me to do. Then there was procrastination, work, lazyness and life getting in the way. In the end, i had to settle to write it down instead. I could have done that since the very beggining, but i really hate my writing. Infortunatly, i'm not talented enough to draw it either, so yeah...... it really sucks.

I'm aware that almost everyone who bothered to read my mission, must have forgotten what happened. It's been one year after all. I'll give majore credits to all of those who went ahead and read this epilogue.
Still, i'm glad i finnaly got this out of the way. I'm not sure how i will handle the following, i can only hope i won't screw around with it, because i do care about it.
And to prove that making this a comic was actually a thing for a time, i posted what was done of it in my scraps. May it rest in peace.

NOW, to go read everybody's entry like i should have long ago too. I really had to get this out of the way first. Thanks to everyone who bothered to carry on until here. You're awesome!

I'm aware that almost everyone who bothered to read my mission, must have forgotten what happened. It's been one year after all. I'll give majore credits to all of those who went ahead and read this epilogue.
Still, i'm glad i finnaly got this out of the way. I'm not sure how i will handle the following, i can only hope i won't screw around with it, because i do care about it.
And to prove that making this a comic was actually a thing for a time, i posted what was done of it in my scraps. May it rest in peace.

NOW, to go read everybody's entry like i should have long ago too. I really had to get this out of the way first. Thanks to everyone who bothered to carry on until here. You're awesome!
