Description This is a stamp for those who don't want to upgrade from Windows XP, likes to use Windows XP as a guest operating system or that their old PC falls far short of the hardware requirements required to run current Windows-based operating systems.

Despite Windows XP recently moving from Mainstream Support to the Extended Support phase, it still remains the best selling operating system of all time...especially having almost totally dominating the operating system market with a 85.3% market share in a December 2006 report.

Hundreds of millions of people still use Windows XP worldwide. Windows XP is the operating system that will never die!

But I don't know if you'll remain on Windows XP forever. I was on Windows 2000 for more than four years before I went back to Windows Vista.

I grew up with it and it's the only thing I know how to use.

all the new stuff confuses me to no end, it lags, and theres loads of unnecessary distractions all over. it really bugs me.
(only know this cause of the computers at school use the new stuff.)

The only OS that I grew up with was MS-DOS.

Windows XP is unsupported now and it's no longer preloaded on new computers.

I'm aware. but mine still works perfectly fine. (really old computer.)

I mainly still use my xp also to play old pc games that only work on windows xp. so I kinda need to keep it like that.

True. The computer with Windows Vista has 8 GB RAM and it works as is as I mostly play games and use apps designed for Windows XP and up.

Too bad they dropped support for it. I still use it, and I want to move on to Windows 7-8. I think i'll be safe for now, as I have an up-to-date antivirus.

I know. It's too bad that so many people are using the OS...waiting to get off.

I don't too. Microsoft has rights to end support for older operating systems and it's not your "public utility".

I'll be using it for as long as I can! I'm not going to stop using it, just because Microsoft dropped support for it either. So, it will live on with me for a while.

ppgrainbow In reply to JohnK222 [2014-05-08 06:46:23 +0000 UTC]

I used Windows 2000 months a few months before Microsoft dropped support for that OS on my old computer. I used that OS for more than four years until I finally got tired of my old computer. It's still sitting there as I'm still waiting to get rid of the old computer once and for all.

More than 25% of internet connected users still run Windows XP and it will be a while before costumers migrate from the unsupported OS. Windows Vista is going to slowly suffer the same demise along with Windows XP in less than three years. I'll probably use my current OS for another year after Microsoft drops support.

I used Windows ME up until 2006, which was pushing it, I think. So I was late coming into using XP.

ppgrainbow In reply to JohnK222 [2014-05-08 07:16:21 +0000 UTC]

I only used Windows Me until mid-2002 when I upgraded to Windows XP home, I used it for more than five years before moving to Windows Vista, twice...on my defunct laptop and on this PC that I'm currently using.

I originally used Windows XP as my main computer until October 2007 due to motherboard issues. I managed to use my old computer until the end of February.

Do you know how your old PC got struck by lightning?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Atom-Smasher-Errors In reply to ppgrainbow [2014-04-13 20:07:37 +0000 UTC]

I don't know that much. I was on a trip to New York City at the time. I believe it must have struck one part of an electricity wire. (Mine are above ground wires. I don't live in a neighborhood with Homeowner's Association rules.) It must have struck the computer. My grandpa, told me to keep the computer before the surge protector, so I guess that it made it to the computer.

A true shame. I miss the Starfield screensaver.

ppgrainbow In reply to Atom-Smasher-Errors [2014-04-13 21:14:08 +0000 UTC]

If your computer wasn't connected to the surge protector, chances are that your computer got fried when the lightning struck.

Lessons can be learned with newer PCs...never plug the desktop computer to a AC outlet wall.

I am using XP too, but I am so scared about what will happen after April 8. I don't want to switch to the new Windows, as it will be confusing for anyone to use.

ppgrainbow In reply to StellarFairy [2014-03-20 03:47:35 +0000 UTC]

People shouldn't be scared of what will happen in just a couple of weeks. People like you can use Windows XP, but the OS will no longer receive security updates.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StellarFairy In reply to ppgrainbow [2014-03-20 03:50:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and they should keep their antivirus up to date. I use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.

ppgrainbow In reply to StellarFairy [2014-03-20 03:56:50 +0000 UTC]

Β AVG should support Windows XP for at least two more years, so...things should be all good.

ppgrainbow In reply to StellarFairy [2014-03-20 05:53:10 +0000 UTC]

Two years should be enough time for users to migrate to a supported OS as vendors either already have or will soon abandon Windows XP support.

My comment was a couple of years ago. Microsoft Security Essentials dropped windows Windows XP support and issued the last anti-malware updates in July 2016. Windows Defender, which is included with Windows Vista is still supported and so is MSE on Windows Vista and 7.
