She was born blind. When her parents realized this, they saw her a burden. Raising a child in the wasteland is hard enough, raising a blind one would be a permanent burden on them since the child would never be able to care for itself. Not having the strength to kill her themselves, they wrapped her up in a red blanket and abandoned her when she was still very young. She was discovered by a lone female Hellhound who decided to raise her and named her after her favorite stone, Ruby.

More info on her: she is able to dig very quickly and is able to identify stones and other flaws in the ground by their feel and she is decent at hand to hand combat, both are things her mom taught her. She has very good hearing (think daredevilish but not nearly as sensitive.) She is strong headed and confident with an awesome sense of humor, she doesn't see her blindness as a weakness.
