Although still not a common practice, there are regions of the world where other genders and sexes outside of the M/F binary are recognized, including some that have “indeterminate/unspecified” or other options for birth certificates. This is typically designated by an “X”.

sorta yes? usually in official documents it's more like "ambigious" or "indeterminate" sex, so they are intersex but usually referred to at birth with other, less accurate language and descriptors.
