Description
The maroon haired girl stared at the scene through the window, houses burning. Vampires that weren't busy burning the homes ran through the entire village attacking and biting innocent people. The twelve-year-old girl stood there smiling maniacally as her two younger sisters walked up behind her and stood there. The youngest one was rubbing her eyes with one hand as her elder sister held her other hand.

"Riho neechan, shouldn't we run like everybody else? One of us will have to carry Ruby. She's still sleepy and we know she can't run with her being sick and all."

The maroon haired girl removed her attention from the window and looked down at her silver haired sister. The silver haired girl looked up at her sibling through worried icy blue eyes. Riho smiled and pet her sister's head while giving a small glare at the much younger, brown haired girl. She was still rubbing her eyes, unaware of what was going on.

"Ouka, you're eight years old, you can run, or you can choose to hide. You could be in danger if you stay here with mom and me. You should follow Silver, to get out of here." The maroon haired girl paused for a moment and glared at the little wolf-eared girl, who was now focusing her little brown eyes on her two elder sisters, before continuing, "While you're at it, why not leave the weakling here? She's only gonna slow you down Ouka."

At this, the silver haired wolf glared lightly at her beloved older sibling and protectively hugged her fragile, four year old sister. Ruby, not understanding what was going on, simply hugged back. She was happy to be hugged by her loving sister. Riho rolled her eyes at Ouka. "Why do you care about her so much Ouka? She's sick all the time, she gets in the way of things, and her fault your dad left! If she wasn't born sick, mom wouldn't have to ask you to tend to the sick while she tended to her sickly daughter here!" Riho shouted in a hateful tone.

Ruby looked on the verge of tears as she pulled on Ouka's shirt lightly and huddled close to her. "Ouka, why does oneechan hate me so much?"  Ouka gave a look of sympathy towards the girl that clung to her before looking back at the girl who ruby had addressed. Riho sighed feeling bad that the innocent child now was crying from sensing that girl hated her.
"Hey shut up... Quit crying!"
"Riho yelling at a four year old isn't gonna make her stop crying!"
"Ugh! Look Ruby! Stop crying will you? I don't really hate you." Riho said, it was clearly a lie, Riho never lied, she was always bluntly telling the truth. In this case, however, she had to lie. She didn't want to Ouka scolding her again. Riho pulled something from her skirt pocket and handed it to Ruby.
"Here. Its the only pink dagger I owned when I was little. I was trained to hunt food and stuff by mom when we were stuck in the mountains once." Ouka smiled; pleased that Riho did something nice for the first time in Ruby's life. Ruby was overjoyed at receiving a gift from her oldest sister, even happier at the fact that Riho called the wolf girl by her name rather than refer to her with bad names.

As Ruby was admiring her dagger, the door to the next room was opened, a tall boy with short black hair came into the room, and he had blue eyes, a fluffy wolf tail (like Ouka's) and two wolf ears on his head. "Ruby, Ouka, you girls ready to go?" Ruby, hearing the boy come in, ran over to greet him, "Oniichan! Yes I'm ready to go!"  Ruby said ramming right into her hugging him and clinging to his waist, as she was pet on her head. Ouka turned to look at him and nodded, "I don't want to go because I'd hate to leave Riho behind Silver ..." Silver smiled and pat Ouka's head reassuringly. "Don't worry, Riho and I were trained to fight, weren't we sis?" Silver said and looked at his sister who was two years younger than he was. "Right, Silver! Those vampires may have come for mom and I, but Silver, his friends, and I can kill a good lot of them!"  Riho exclaimed proudly.  At this Ouka agreed at last to follow Silver to safety, noticing that Silver already had Ruby on his back.

"I wish Riho's father never left... He wouldn't have been assassinated and this war wouldn't have started ..." Ouka thought to herself while looking around at all the destruction in the village of InuNeko.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* A Year Before *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Happy birthday Ruby and Ouka! Congratulations on turning four and eight!" The mother of the siblings shouted handing each of them a present as Silver sat in a chair eager for some cake. Riho was on the couch watching TV in the next room. "Lets eat some cake!" shouted Silver reaching for the cake. Before he could touch it however his hand was smacked by his mother.
"Ow! Mom!"
"Silver Kei Rose!  I taught you better manners than that! Wait until I serve the birthday girls their slice."
"Yes mom…" Ruby giggled at her defeated brother. "Don't worry Oniichan! You can have my piece! I wanna give a piece of cake to Oneechan!" Silver smiled and ruffled Ruby's hair, "That sweet of you Ruby but I can wait. Besides Riho hates sweets, she likes bitter dark chocolate. You know, the type of chocolate you like to top you're your strawberry shortcakes with?" Silver said pulling a chocolate bar out of his pocket and handed it to his little sister. "Here why not go give this to her?"
"Okay Oniichan!" She smiled happily and ran off.

"Silver? Why did you give it to Ruby to give to Riho? Don't you know Riho hates Ruby?" Ouka asked curiously. "Of course I do Ouka. But I noticed it make Ruby happy trying to Riho's affection. It's sad I know but … Lets allow Ruby to be happy a while 'kay?"
"Okay Silver." Ouka said as she took a bite of cake.

Ruby happily ran into the living room and stood in front of Riho her tail wagging happily. Riho glared at the little girl who was in the way of her television program. "What do you want?" Riho said in a very rude tone that made Ruby flinch. Ruby's wolf ears drooped as well as her tail, "I wanted to give you this chocolate … I'm sorry for bothering you…" Ruby hesitantly put the chocolate on Riho's lap. When Riho continued to glare at her, Ruby felt she had to leave.

When Ruby walked back into the kitchen she was greeted by Ouka and Silver while her mother was washing dishes. "How did it go kiddo?" Silver asked. Ruby had tears in her eyes but she forced a smile anyway. "S-she liked it Oniichan!" Ruby said. Her face started to become soaked by tears that the emotionally hurt girl could no longer hold back. The fourteen year  old boy sighed heavily as Ouka got up from the table and headed towards the living room. Silver picked up the crying girl  and rubbed her back  he held her like a father would a child until Ouka came back  holding the remote to the TV and Riho coming in chasing after her. "Why Riho? Really, what did Ruby ever do to you? She wanted to be nice and give you a  chocolate bar you love and I'll bet you glared at her to make her go away! Don't you emotionally abuse her enough already? What did she do to make you hate her so much?!" Silver said still patting the still crying Ruby's back.
