Description
The Robotic Obsolete Buddy.ROB in Smash
ROB was a real surprise when he was revealed for Brawl. He had his detractors, but I think he really earned a spot. Technically he wasn't a game character originally but after the NES peripheral was well and truly buried, ROB went on to pop up in games such as Mario Kart, Kirby and F-Zero, becoming somewhat of a favourite all-encompassing Nintendo cameo.
So far from criticising his inclusion, I think he really had every right to be there.
And I use him quite a lot too! Probably in my second or third tier of characters so I'm not too bad with him and have kind of got to grips with some of his imbalanced moves.
ROB in Your Living Room
Do any of you guys own one of these guys? If you had asked me twenty years ago, I would have claimed he wasn't even released in the UK because I certainly never saw one. I feel like it would be a cool collection piece but I don't have much interest in actually playing those games.
I also think it's kind of weird that ROB gets so much recognition these days and yet anything else from his games (such as Professor Vector, his fictional inventor) don't get a look in.
I think ROB will continue to get the occasional cameo but I don't expect them to bring him back as a console supplement. Though it's not as if Nintendo have given up on that idea...

Needless to say, R.O.B. is probably the only character in the Super Smash Bros. series to not have his own playable stage, though I like to think of the Wrecking Crew stage from SSB4 on the Wii U to be meant for R.O.B. due to it originating from the NES.

It is quite peculiar that ROB isn't given much content, he doesn't even have a stage background on the official website!

What if Professor Hector is secretly controlling ROB? That would be cool. Maybe like how Doc Louis is kind of helping Mac/cheering him one

He could be a cool support character, sure.

To me, he was a nice inclusion whose potential wasn't fully fulfilled in Brawl, as I tried but rarely got the hang of his moves. Either way, nice job getting all those design details down here very well. Keep up the nice work!

Thanks very much!
I don't think I ever used him in Brawl but use him quite a bit now. I don't really know what kind of changes they made, I think all of his moves are the same but maybe some of the statistical values are different now.

You know how every character has a little tune that plays whenever they win in Smash? ROBs has one of my favorites.

Nice! It's a fun little tune. I assume it's from Gyromite but I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah I never really recognize some of the tunes. Even being an Earthbound fan I still donβt know what Nessβ tune is based on.
