Sister artwork: projectmetanoia.deviantart.com…Journal entry about week one and two: projectmetanoia.deviantart.com…
Like I mentioned in the sister artwork; while sketching I fell into creating a skeleton character. It gave spirit to the lifeless subject matter I was drawing. At the moment it's more of a species than a character since I don't seem to want to keep facial features consistent. I'm still learning simplifications for the skeleton/ the entire skeleton in general. It will be interesting to see if the species/character evolves any further.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on my drawings! 'Good' or 'bad'/constructive

Hehe that was the only one I remembered from some vague half-study we must have done in art or something. Or just looking at that old fantasy anatomy book.

Nope!
All I remembered was head measurement head>nipples>belly-button>...? and that legs should vaguely be as long as head-hips. Pretty sure we didn't do anatomy in art class.

.__.
I remember you mentioning that one, for some reason I didn't really care for it. Mm, I had the vague leg length concept too.
Yeah, it must have been the fantasy anatomy book grandma gave me. God forbid school actually doing anything useful

I didn't use it every time but I found it useful do what works. I think your more technical them me, I kinda just fluff around but you're bothering to do the basics and stuff
Even if school did try it probably could have given me an aversion to learning it -A-' like it did with colour.

Hehe, I have always enjoyed organising and getting things 'perfect' more than you. I've always gotten the sense that anatomy knowledge would be invaluable, but was too lazy. I'll feel more comfortable stylising things when I know what I'm altering.
As a kid I was more interested in realism in general I think. I'd try and do photorealism every known again. And was too scared to shade for a long time because I didn't understand it and didn't want to get it wrong. You just shaded willy nilly and got results.
Lol true. Was a bit of anatomy involved when you did your 'visual study'? (oh god)

I kinda got that sense. I could just be lying to myself so I don't have to study it X'D
I have little desire for full-on realism, but I like semi-realism and realistic elements in a style. But yeah, never photo or anything. Interesting that you were afraid of shading. I cant remember every experiencing such fears. Maybe REALLY early on when we first got clued into it, but no issues.
Yes. But I just slashed out what was necessary to claim I'de studied it. I did not retain it at all. It hurts thinking back to that project. Not even because of the bad art but just school. I cared so much about my art... No one gave me any sympathy, wisdom or guidance.

Well, we don't have a lot of need for photo-realism. We've always enjoyed sketching and stylising more than lazoring in on being super realistic. I would have an appetite for that every known again though.
Hehe we had a convo about it at the time I remember being surprised when I learnt you didn't understand shading but did it anyway
This was the days of coloured pencil, small amount of 'cell shading'. That's how it began.
Lul, I got that sense Understandable.
True, and for me as well. The best we got was MAYBE Bawden choosing to study MAUS in English for us. Egh. Mum's PATHETIC attempt to nurture it with art lessons was terrible. It was up to us to take the rains and that just wasn't in our nature (or beaten out of us due to school and/or family dynamics).
In a lazy mood

Indeed. I'de never get the urge o__o'
I very-very vaguely remember something like that. I cant even remember trying to shade.
I vaguely enjoyed MAUS but it was wierd. The haze of school and knowing I'de have to do assignments on it capped my enjoyment of it. I enjoyed it a lot more reading it again out of school.
Hello, we're kids. I'll chalk this one up to your lazy mood. Parents are supposed to take the reigns; we didn't know how to research, how to practise, how to critique. We didn't know the great artists. We didn't even know we didn't know. Of course we couldn't direct ourselves.
It was school that eventually beat the motivation out of us though.

.U.'
I had the exact experience with MAUS.
Lul, you misunderstood. When I said 'it was up to us' I was pointing out that it was left up to us and shouldn't have been. Well at least teaching us how to take initiative etc should have been in place beforehand.

oh haha, soz for the misunderstanding. Indeed it was 'left up to us,' this reminds me that a lot of people expect behaviour of children when they've put in zero time to teach the child that behaviour, and why it's necessary or wanted. They implied we were lazy when we didn't have the discipline to do 3 hours homework. First off, who the F would want to do work they aren't interested in? Second, even if we wanted to be productive, no one ever taught us how, or outlined it's value. Everything is placed on the child's shoulders when how are they to know and understand?

Tell me about it. It happens with a lot of things, sometimes I'll find myself getting irked at Mal for jumping, but I didn't make the sacrifices necessary to teach her not to. I could have left customers waiting and confused to calm her down, I could have been stout about Dad and Joe encouraging it, but I wasn't.
I haven't contributed much/at all I'm all foggy because Mum and Dad are back from Augusta...for some reason I'm getting so irked by Mum talking to me every second.

That is an interesting thought. I'm pretty sure I've heard Stef talk about this before, that it happens to him; he obviously doesn't let it effect his parenting though. I suppose it's a way of telling you 'this behaviour isn't desired,' but it's weird that it sets you up to get impatient and angry at the kid/mallee. don't have much thoughts on it.
Maybe in a tribal/survival environment it was more important for the behaviour change to be quick, or your son might might offend some homicidal shaman looking for a sacrifice to the gods. And there'd be more immediate danger 'DONT TOUCH THAT POISONOUS BUG' etc. There was no time to be proactive and approach it the right way idk.

ProjectMetanoia In reply to Unmoored [2014-05-30 12:31:41 +0000 UTC]
Just some clarity, I didn't mean 'it happens with a lot of things' in a personal sense. Just a general sense, it can manifest in many many areas is what I meant.
Eh, it's nothing to worry about. It manifests as more self bashing than projecting frustration onto Mal. If it were a kid I would have taken preventative action for the unbeneficial behaviour/mentality and quick as heck addressed it if it ever started in the interest of a better behaviour/outlook.
Yeah, of course there was! That's what I mean - I was lax in the preventative action area (let Dad and Joe let her jump). For a time I compromised the customers to teach her AND got Mum to knock on the door and wait for me when she got home. I gave up on it and choose Mum's convenience and not confusing the customers over Mal's jumping.

I see what your saying but elaborate for me anyway. Like if someone is ignorant of a cooking technique and you just want to smash them out the way and do it yourself? lol.
I understand the feeling too. Though I'm more likely to bitch at you about it since you were at the helm of Malee's training. Thats only with her neediness though. With jumping and everything I blame dad and very much sympathise with how hard that realm is/was. You have to be the bad guy and inconvenience other people if that was going to be addressed.

The specific example you give I don't relate to. Basically the only area I can think of is Mal's jumping/ other untasteful traits.
Coby's been around a lot and no events spring to mind so I'm right I reckon.
I feel like Coby would get Noreen vibes from me, If you know that I mean I don't feel authorised/ have zero desire to control his actions. I'm his slave basically >3>'
Exactly right my good sir. She is ultra needy.. She's not too hec recently I've noticed. She mostly sleeps on my bed when I'm in my office.

I was stretching because you said 'it crops up in a lot of areas/ways.' idk. Pretty sure we understand each other.
I felt like kinda like a slave too but not in a bad way obviously, in a 'this kid of course cant do it himself so I'll help and I'de be a major douche if I didn't.' lol... This reminds me of your idea of daycare. While I'm in SB I could think of those kinds of things, not just farming. Maybe I could actually babysit in SB since they seemed to hate the idea in linc.
SO EVEN WHEN IT'S YOU SHE DOESN'T COME INTO MY ROOM. WTF MALLEE. SHE HATES ME.

I know, I think I lazily just threw that there with little reflection/editing. The context got jumbled from general to personal. I wanted to convey that I understood and that it wasn't limited to which ever area you described. IDK, yeah we went down the wrong route, but I think it's been sorted.
Yeah, same.
I've been debating volunteering with the Redden daycare down the road...
To be honest I'm worried about you moving back here. Shit the full scope just hit me...dishes, kitchen mess, shopping, office compromised, aloneness compromised. eeeeh. Perhaps that's contributing to my weird mood, knowing my solitude could be compromised some time soon.

Unmoored In reply to ProjectMetanoia [2014-06-07 12:22:39 +0000 UTC]
I understand. First off I will pull my weight with dishes and kitchen - being in linc has improved me there. Why shopping? I dread people wanting to god-damn talk to me coz it's such a small town. Less food range. Greatly diminished alone time. Parents. Being around you; good for conversation but bad for my/our identity development & self-image (comparing myself to you and everything). I'm just gonna go and see how I feel, I honestly have no idea what preference I'll come out with. I should take notes for how I'm feeling now so that I can compare goodly. A is possibly an option but... I'm tired of being a leech, idk. I wrote out + & - of my options and linc came out the best in theory.
We could try to work something out to give each other alone time. Like crashing at Joe's house if thats aloud, or something.

ProjectMetanoia In reply to Unmoored [2014-06-12 12:01:11 +0000 UTC]
Shopping as in - will you come with me? Do I want you to come. Eh idk with more thought it's not much of an issue, we can choose who goes and if it's alone or not.
Yeah - take notes.
It will be interesting to spend an extended period with you after/during Marg - I hope I don't compare us as fiercely or some shit, or notice cool changes in myself.
I think I might set office hours for you though Rhia - as in don't interrupt me from 9 till dog walking or something. The last few days I've achieved velocity in my kids lit project - I'm terrified that will terminate when you get here.
Mm, Joe's house is an option - it may even have internet now.
I'm becoming more concerned that you seem so directionless currently

I want us to go separately. Whatever arrangement that may be: own food or collective etc.
eh
I'm fine submitting to your office hours.
cmskednceqwkcwfnvqwjkamcfnkjaewnvcfkqeefnwcamkwerfjnkeqef James is getting somewhere, but so far it's not focused and is pretty general. I'm confident it'll lead somewhere though. idk. Maybe being around you will help me in this area somehow. At least make me more aware and tangible of how much I waste my time compared with you.

Hmm we can always try a variety of things and see what works. Perhaps you do it one week, me the next.
Idk your status as short term visitor or not - what's happening with tea? I cook, you cook? I guess it'll work out in the wash. Logically it should be slit labour...
How do you know it's getting somewhere? I don't mean it as an opposition, I'm just curious to know what indicates you're getting somewhere - and what is 'getting somewhere'? How will you know when you've got there?
Perhaps~

it'll work out.
After talking to him it put me in a good mood. Which I admit isn't evidence. He seems 100% confident it'll go somewhere. Which isn't evidence either. Idk, I just feel like it's very promising. He recommended I read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, which is related. In emails we are starting to dabble. It's only in beginning stages alright >_<
I'll know when I've got there when I have direction in life. I'm not even that concerned by motivation factors.

Studying the skeleton will help greatly with getting poses to look and feel natural. Well done. If you are brushing up on your anatomy you may find this series by Alphonso Dunn interesting: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VVU1m…
Either way it will be interesting to see what you do next.
