TOOLS: Corel Painter, Photoshop + Wacom
TIME: On and off for a few days
Recently I was commissioned to illustrate a sketch of Rincewind from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series [link] . For the fun of it I decided to colour it digitally. I also used this as an excuse to practice with Corel Painter. For me it's a bit more difficult than Photoshop. Kept trying the PS shortcuts but they didn't work.
It's quite a bit different from the original sketch. I changed the layout by making Rincewind fill the frame more and I completely changed the background. But I kept the story happening. The Luggage is creeping up on Rincewind but he doesn't know that it's the box on legs. He can just hear the sound of many feet coming his way. In a desperate attempt to appear intimidating, Rincewind finds a nearby branch and wields it, ready to swing.

That's really very impressive! I can't help but think this seems more like Rincewind than nearly any other picture I've seen. The colors are all fairly dark, which suits him in my opinion (based on the permanent state of fear he's in ;D).
As for the background, I must say I love the addition of the Luggage's shadow, which lends itself very well to the overall dark feel of the picture.
This is wonderfully executed, and all the details from Rincewind's 'weapon' to the Unseen University tower in the background make this picture truly impressive. Needless to say, if I had any spare money lying around, I'd request this as a print in a heartbeat.

The most edgy wizard ice ever known poor guy has just one spell embedded in his head and it talks to him! The right expression of anxiousness here looks like he honostly think that bush will protect him I love him to pieces

Oooh, this is gorgeous! I love how detailed everything is, from the lettering on Rincewind's hat to the gargoyle on top of the wall. The colors are so rich, with a very effective use of light and shadow. You really put us smack dab into the middle of Sir Pratchett's uniquely insane fantasy universe, with the shadow of the luggage stalking the wizard like a Pre-Industrial version of Pac-Man. Hope you're getting paid a hefty sum for this
