Description
Well, I'm embarking on a project to do a whole tarot deck. Probably won't be done for a couple of years because I have to do commissions and paying jobs. If my attention span can handle it, this will be my project to do in between all that stuff. So, that said, here is #0: The Fool
She's a bit different from the standard depiction, but it's still about new beginnings, and embarking into the unknown.
Details here: [link]
And for prints: [link]
Oh yeah, and for anyone interested, here's the pencil sketch that led up to the finished painting: [link]

wow looks like you have already goten alot of coments, but thats not about to stop me...
ive seen a lot of fool cards in my day, ive never seen one depicted like this, almost never female infact usualy a non gendered version and almost always 'grownded' with a clear path like thing to follow.
i love this one all the more for those reasons, awesome way of drawing out the concepts of innocence, new beginings, and takeing the plunge into a new begining. im a bit curios about the explination behind the animal spirits but they seem to fit, awesome job! breathtakingly beautiful

Hehe. That might be because that's my site. Don't worry, you're not the first person to say that. For some reason, people don't seem to associate my deviantart gallery with me.

thats gorgeous, she looks like a pure version of Delirium from Neil Gaimans Sandman novels...the Delight of the Fool perhaps. Gosh if your paintings were made into a real Tarot deck I would buy a set for sure.
Cant wait to see the rest of the deck

gorgeous piece!! i love the pedestal design... this coming from an art history student. Ever thought of designing/making pottery/statuary? I thin you would be able to do a good job! Maybe even designing architectural ornementation...

Mmm... Well, I love your paintings, but tarot's really REALLY important matter with cards is that each symbol represented in it has a specific definition thus, a reason to be portrayed in it...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
puimun In reply to Marichromatic [2004-06-18 17:58:14 +0000 UTC]
I'm aware of that. But Symbols are representative of a Meaning, and there are more than a single way to depict any Meaning. Symbols in and of themselves are nothing. It's what they represent that's important.

Great finished piece. It is lovely, though very much like most of your other work. I have seen a few of your pieces that stand out above the rest. I don't know if it is a personal aspect in them that I connect with, or a step further to perfection on your part, but this is lacking whatever it is, for me anyway. I still love the picture, the details and the colors. It will make a wonderful tarot card, and deck (along with the others). *waits patience for the other cards*

Hello! The fool symbolizes new beginnings, new opportunities, unlimited possibilities, pleasure, passion, thoughtlessness, rashness. Usually it's depicted as a youth about to walk over a cliff's edge with a dog following him along.
