Description
Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Nothing Gold Can Stay - Robert Frost
Sunrise on farmland, March 13th, 2010.
My very first serious attempt at nature photography (thanks for ALL the tips guys!).
I woke up at 5:45am and forced myself to go and catch a sunrise.
My friends *dennissnider and =KSPhotographic inspire me an awful lot with their landscape photography, and I've been dying to try my hand at it, even though I'm stuck in the prairies
Enjoy~

Great shot. Love how the sky renders a marble effect. I actually wrote a high school essay on this very poem...the last line seems to suggest the impermanence in nature as well as life.

fantastic colours! how could you get that sky? neutral density? long exposure? and good work, with the watermark, I almost didn't notice about it

To be totally honest, this picture had nothing special done with it or to it. It just came out like this. Sometimes, here, where I live - we get the most brilliant skies, and sometimes I am lucky to capture them. No long exposure, no neutral density - just a bit of luck and a gorgeous morning.

I'll add my voice to the chorus and say this is really lovely. I like your horror vibe but this sunset also makes for a great picture.

You know, it would be probably more than perfect if I could throw fake blood on the sun and then snap its picture But I can't, alas.
Nature is astounding - I'm glad you like this, I like it too. I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time to catch this.

If you can figure out a way to throw fake blood on the sun, let me know. That sounds like an awesome picture
I agree, nature is astounding. Pics like this are needed to. It's like I listen to a lot of songs about people getting murdered but sometimes I need to listen to a beautiful choral piece. Always a balance.

Ohhh thank you, I wish it was sand, though it does look like it - that's actually a field on the prairies that was plowed right before the first snowfall

Warm and soft. It's beautiful in so many ways. Absolutely soothing.
(I'd also like to add that I love the shape of the work as is. I think the darkness of the upper sky balances out the dark of the land beautifully.)

Oh why thank you. I was hesitant to crop this anymore, though it would look nice boxed - I am hoping that I have another version with more land that I can work with to try that particular course of action with
I'm glad you like it

That's a really cool sky! Great picture!
Maybe you should consider cropping away some of the sky and go for square though? I think that might make it even better

Thank you, hon
I was ridiculously proud of how this one turned out - I've been trying pretty hard to branch out in to other things lately because I feel stuck in a rut, and I've always wanted to try to capture some of the nature around me. I'm really glad you like it
