I don't normally use textures, or photomanipulate at all, to be honest, but I didn't think this could be done in just a picture with the jerky lighting in my house, I had no other options to achieve the look I wanted.
Yes, I know starving people do not look exactly like this. This is a glorified vision, as I have no actual starving people to take pictures of.
No, this person is not unhealthy. He's not under-weight, he's not sick, he's not anorexic and if that's what you're going to say, then don't. Just stop now and back off.
Anyway. Starvation.
I hope I did this photo manipulation alright...
Every 3.6 seconds someone starves to death and 3/4 are children under the age of 5.

I'm especially fond of the lighting on the top half of his arm. It gives the picture such an eerie feeling - perfect for the theme.

On an unartistic note, I have the urge to feed him a Big Mac. Now onto the art related. I normally HATE textures, but think the textures really enhance the photo and help frame it. I love the simple colors and the contrast between the lights, darks, and midtones. I think the key to the photo's message here is it simple nature, bringing about one solid point - starvation. Before I'd read the title, it was what came to mind. And major kudos for very subtle spots of overexposure which I think are more of a help than an hinderance in this photo's case.

I've never used a texture before, I wasn't sure if I had done this right or not, but I was fairly pleased with the outcome. It reminded me of another deviant's work, *HerrBuchta , except minus the nudity, *chuckle, so when I saw the outcome of this, I was surprised, as I've been following him for a long time now, he's wonderful with his use of texture.
I'm glad that it was what came to mind before reading the title, I know that starving people really don't look like this, at least, not when they are into the full blown starvation, but I felt it was a starting point.
It was definitely a learning experience for me to manipulate in photo-shop, I don't think I've ever really tried my hand at this much of it in one shot before. Thank you for your detailed and wonderful comment

I haven't been able to make another using a texture since this one (I'm making it sound like I've tried for years and only got one, drama queen, sheesh
