Description Dang right this is going under Technical Drawings!
(It took three different formats before I could convey what was in my head onto a viewable medium without resorting to animation or video.)

While the snap-apart arm might be a little gross for some, including me, trust me when I say that the drawing you're looking at now is a lot better than the aborted messes I've made during the past couple of days. ex. Needless to say, the dissection view from your old 6th grade human health classes would NOT have been appropriate. The LAST thing the bondage, shibari, and bdsm communities need is for some well-intentioned moron to stoke the torch-and-pitchfork crowd during an election year.)

I'm thankful I didn't have to scrap this idea entirely; there's nothing more aggravating than having an idea trapped in your mind with no way of communicating it to other people.

BTW, I'd love to be able to say that this goes under the DA category of Artisan Crafts, Sculpture, etc. but I'm taking a wild guess it wouldn't be easy to get my previous models in the same house at the same day. (I still consider myself lucky enough that I don't have to put it under Conceptual. Cue the high hat!)

During the field test, if this arrangement of where the limbs and knots go has only half the unexpected setbacks that previous attempts had, I'll be happy. Trial and error is fine, but when my friends' backs are getting sore, the semi-kinky science has to take a backseat to common sense, y'know?)

Speaking of which, if you want to try this diagram out on your own, I'd love to hear what went right and what went wrong. (On that note: the purple isn't connected to the other ropes. If you've got a solution for the purple parts, I'd appreciate hearing it. Alos, there are a total of only four ropes in the diagram, but I have no clue about necessary length on the one long red-orange-yellow-green rope.)

Medium: Microsoft Paint and a Wacom Bamboo digital drawing tablet.

Finally, I'm putting a mildly mature filter on this, not because it's obscene but because I'm not a big fan of the argument of, "If you're offended, then don't look," mentality when the offending artist is sticking his/her parts into the camera while hollering in such a way that nobody within a two-block radius can ignore him/her. (Go Google something innocent like "crisp lettuce" and I'll bet you'll get at least two porn videos, women's running shoes, an ad for the latest Lexus, and Harry Potter fanart. I shouldn't have to avert my eyes just because I glanced at a billboard while driving.)

You know, I have no idea how to read your diagram... and I'm only really dipping my toe into this whole new world because I have a partner for whom it is very much a comfort, but... the "rules" listed at the bottom there really were helpful to me! It was so, so wonderful to see someone else spell out what he's always said. Not that I disbelieved him! But it's nice to know that there are others who don't see it as an excuse to hog-tie a sexual partner. o_o

Ah, that didn't come out right. I just wanted to thank you. It took him almost a decade of knowing me (and over nine years of a relationship!) to confess that he liked and was comforted by these sorts of things, and it's really reassuring to hear what you've said. I can show it to him, too, so he could perhaps feel better about it. <3

Compliments like THAT definitely make the frustration of the drawing process worth it. Thank you!

To read the diagram, follow the colors of the rainbow: go from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple. (In this case, the darker red rope is actually one piece, while the red-orange-yellow-green-blue rope is a second length of rope. The purples are the third and fourth lengths of rope.

As for the nine "rules" at the bottom of the drawing, the ironic thing is that I put those in mostly to remind myself (months or years down the road) of what criteria became important to me during this drawing. It's awesome that someone else was able to use them to clarify their own experience. Thank you again!
