Victory is a lamplightForever flashing
On and off
Drifting in the darkness
Teasing the great heroes
A prize forever lost
Victory is a temptation
A belief in itself
That when we win, it's all ours
But it is a false notion
For the spoils always go higher
And we become nothing but the 'Hero'
A hero lost, a hero gained
Nothing more and nothing less
For we are expendable.
True heart's desire
Always leads someplace darker
And we are the ones to blame.

One fought the legions of the Turks,
The other, those of Rome,
Their victories false, they died defeated.
Yet while they lived, they were heroes,
Lauded and praised,
Feared and hated.
For a time, they held their enemy,
And for a time,
Their nations free,
A victory will always fade,
A hero always fall,
Yet in their time, a difference made.
