About:
Homozygous Gene: MgMg
Heterozygous Gene: nMg
Black Based horse colors: Black, Blue Roan, Smokey Black, Smokey Cream, Clasic Champagne, Grullo, Classic Ivory Champagne, etc.
The Magpie Pattern can ONLY occur on black based horses (not bays or chestnuts). The pattern always goes over the back and NEVER goes on the underside of the horse. Magpie horses almost always have facial markings and it is prefered over horses without facial markings. The mane and tail are always streaked with white.
This pattern can also show with any coat modifier such as roan, cream, champagne, silver, etc. If the horse is not black based it can only carry the gene not express it.
