New Darkness In The East takes place in Japan following an event known as ‘the skyfall’ in which a mysterious object has fallen from the sky in the middle of the night, fluctuating and disturbing energy sources throughout all of Japan. In the following days paranormal incidents appear to be on a drastic new rise. An ominous new atmosphere as fallen over Japan. Restless spirits have taken terrifying new insect-like forms and behaviors, they have become stronger, their presence more widespread, their curse amplified and more dangerous than ever before. The backstories will focus on the life, their death, the original ghost legend, and lastly the new amplified curse of each new individual ghost presented. This take on Japanese horror combines the two great fears of ghosts and that of insects. Combining both of these unpleasantries into the creation of several new ghosts and stories of varying length inspired by the Japanese horror culture surrounding ghosts and urban legends.

New Darkness In The East – Since the day of the skyfall event, disturbing sightings and multiple gruesome deaths in the rural farmlands of Japan have now been attributed to a new menacing demonic spirit. The presence of this ghost presents a real danger to farmers and their families. Those who are able to see this ghost, traumatized do not leave their homes for extended periods of time and thus cannot tend to their fields as their crops die off due to exposure to a clear toxic mist that emits from and swirls beneath the spirit. Those farmers that are skeptical of this spirit risk encountering this ghost that brings certain agonizing death. Even children playing in the farm fields have succumbed to this ghost, their bodies found in horrifyingly painful positions. Families are stricken with fear as they look into the crop fields from their homes at night to see this ghost patrolling. The skin of this spirit is riddled with the tattoos of a violent past... Oddly enough the rumored identity of this spirit links it to an old unsolved mystery of a notoriously violent yakuza known as 'Mr. Death' that ties it back surprisingly to urban areas. Specifically in Kobe city where the only reported sightings of this vicious spirit came from yakuza who had left the city in droves. The emergence of this ghost in rural areas may be an important link tied to the disappearance of Mr Death and the whereabouts of his body. Though no one as of now wants to risk investigating due to a possible encounter with this horrid entity. Only one report of a witness experiencing a death due to this ghost can only describe it as watching a death by one thousand stings...
