I'm guessing part of her backstory is that she was a past "Alice" who became obsessed with the tale.
Maybe it was a malfunctioning "hat" that did it

I hadn't thought of her being a past 'Alice', though that could make sense. Suffice to say, though, she's got some... 'issues' with the real world, and is an addict of being hypnotised.
...I like the malfunctioning hat idea, though~.
