Description PART TWO: The Code

The Warrior Code is different than the Code of the Lake Clans, though many of the rules are very similar [since they used common sense to figure out laws for all Clans so they may live in peace]. A kit is taught the Code while in the nursery, as they are expected to know it by the time they start training.

The Code goes as followed:

1. The Leader's word is law.
2. You may not leave a kit, queen, or elder in despair. Help them at all costs, even if they are not in your Clan.
3. Cross-Clan relationships are frowned upon and the two involved must be warned and punished if found breaking this rule. If they continue to break it after a warning, the Leader may choose to exile them from the Clan.
4. Medicine Cats may have mates, but may only have kits if there is another trained cat to take up their duties during their time in the nursery.
5. Do not steal prey from another Clan.
6. Kits must know the basics of the Code before becoming apprentices.
7. Queens, elders, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors.
8. Respect the boundaries of the Clans. Clans have the right to attack any stray cat found on their territory.
9. If a leader dies, deputy must travel to the Blue Cavern before moon-high the next night to receive his/her nine lives. If a deputy dies, leader must choose a new deputy before moon-high that night.
10. When a kit becomes an apprentice, he/she must travel to Blue Cavern that night. There, they will be talked to by their ancestors. They must not speak of what their ancestors tell them except to their Medicine Cats [if necessary].
11. When an apprentice becomes a Warriors, he/she must sit in silence for a night. He/she will then lead one of the patrols the next day, as well as go on a hunting party. This shows the new Warrior how rough Clan life can be now that they are out of their apprenticeship.
12. It is respectful to sit vigil at a family member/friend's death.

Religion

DawnClan, DuskClan, and NightClan all have the same beliefs: that their Warrior ancestors, Starlight, are watching over them. They contact Starlight through the Blue Cavern, a place where all cats travel to at least once in their lives. There, they share tongues with Starlight.

Apprentices travel to Blue Cavern on their first night of training. There, they are praised by Starlight and given well-wishes, as well as advice on how to be a proper apprentice and Warrior. They are not forced to follow what their ancestors say, but if they are wise, they will at least take some of the tips the older cats give them. They may also be shown signs, but this is a very unlikely case for most cats.

Medicine Cats and Apprentices travel to Blue Cavern very frequently during their lives. They travel at every quarter moon to share tongues with their ancestors. They receive signs from Starlight - these can either be signs that are sent to every Medicine Cat and Apprentice in the cave, or just one or two solitary cats. Starlight may also visit them outside Blue Cavern in the form of their dreams.

Leaders travel to Blue Cavern to receive their nine lives. No one except the Leader is sure how this is done, and the Leader is not allowed to share what happened while in the Cavern. Once done receiving his/her lives, the Leader's suffix will be replaced with the word "light" [eg: Current leaders: Spottedpelt became Spottedlight ; Meadowrun became Meadowlight ; Lionleap became Lionlight]

Gatherings

Gatherings happen twice a month: Once when there is no moon in the sky, and once when the moon is at its fullest. The Clans find it very important to meet up with each other and discuss what has happened during the season. Gatherings are a large highlight in a cat's life, as their first Gathering was one of the things that made them feel like a Clan cat after being moved out of the nursery.

Fights rarely break out at Gatherings, but if they do, Medicine Cats must leap to the highest rock and call out to the cats below to stop. This usually works, as all Clans know the voice of the Medicine Cats.
