Description The pattern if veins in a leaf is a xylem pattern. The actual veins of the leaf are called venations, or venation on the whole.

Australian leaves, when not eaten or soggy from moisture, break down in such a way that leaves the vein skeleton intact. This is one example of this beautiful process.
