Description
I don't like what I've done to it... but I really liked the sketch D:maybe I can save it later..somehow... ;o; I doubt it
I guess it's subconsciously inspired by Jean-HonorΓ© Fragonard's "Les Hazards Heureux de l'Escarpolette" ...which in English is titled "The Swing" 'cause we don't like literal translations :0 indeed. From the Rococo period! *0* (fun to say. Rococo...can't take that seriously... heh)

What kind of pencil did you use to do this amazing drawing?....and how do you get the lines sooo beautifully thin.... mine are always crappy and thick... but I guess thats just the skill

just a simple HB (:
Well, actually, it's my favourite kind of HB: Premium Grade Helix Oxford HB Pencils
They come already sharpened! 8D *dork*
I hate mechanical pencils, but some people seem to like them for the line consistency and constant sharpness and such.. but I prefer to use a regular pencil and have a sharpener glued to my left hand's palm ready to sharpen the pencil every few minutes XD haha
But I guess another thing you get used to after practice with that medium is learning how to deal with the changing/dulling pencil lead.
Like when it's going dull, if it doesn't need sharpening yet (or I don't feel like sharpening) I'll probably deal with clothing or something with that duller pencil tip. I'd deal with things like facial details with a freshly sharpened pencil... and in general I don't press very hard (so maybe that has something to do with it.. I dunno. That one's not a conscious manipulation of the pencil or whatever though XD;; )

Yeah I don't like mechanical pencils either... I usually have my sharpener ready too lol. But I think I press down kinda hard... maybe If I lightened my weight I could try for some nicer lines.... I might even take a look at those pencils too.... I use to use 2h and 3h pencils, but I've started to use HB becuase it draws more sure lines.... anyway Thanks so much for replying! Your arts is very inspiring I love the fantasy aspect of your drawings mixed with your awesome lines... gives me goosebumps (in a good way) lol

oh yeah? I find "H" pencils to be a little too light.. it's like for "presketching" or something (which I don't do XB;; ) That's probably why you have to press harder.
I think -Bs have softer lead (so you have to sharpen them more frequently) and they're more for drawing; whereas -Hs are more for um.. graph-drawing(?) and mathematical things like that where you need a hard-lead pencil that will stay sharp long and is easily erasable. SO you'll find the former is (I think) just easier to draw with.
Oh, no problemo! I LOVE replying! X3 I love having stuff to which I can reply! (I'm a real chatterbox actually XD;; )
wow thanks!! β₯β₯ ;u;

OOh I see... yeah i don't know much about pencils really.. But that helps!.. and yeah I think i've just developed the need to press hard and kind of "outline" my drawings. The thing about B pencils though is that I feel they make too much of a mark then I want ,but again i think thats just because I press hard. I need to get rid of that urge >.< When you say you don't preskecth do you never draw skecthy at first and then fix up your lines? Are they just nice to begin with? Just curious: )

PyroPanda In reply to GinnyArt [2007-10-25 17:31:13 +0000 UTC]
lol; yeah. You find what you like by experimenting I guess. I mean, I don't press hard with pencil that makes a light/erasable line, but I do with permanent black pen! (how wacky is that? XD)
Oh I never 'fix up' I never have to erase any 'extra lines' after I sketch something. It's an annoying bother to me. Sketchy lines are just too tedious for me. I make one solid line and if I have to, I begrudgingly erase the whole line and redo it XD;;
The sketches you see uploaded haven't gone through any "clean up" process other than (sometimes) taking out a hair that got caught in the scanner or something (and sometimes I'm even too lazy to do that XD;; lol)
I think it's just that I don't want to spend forever doing stuff.. it's the same when I write. I don't take a lot of time to do it (which is why it's VERY messy.. 'cause neat in writing takes time, eh?? I dunno. maybe XD)
Not using sketchy lines, for me, ensures that the lines are smooth/ "line up" and stuff :B

wow i wish I could get a nice line wothout the use of skething... sometimes I get some nice lines when I draw without having to skecth it.... Thats what I aim for.. I don't like having to redraw alot of my sketchy lines, but usually when i get to hard parts like legs.... I get all skecthy and then erase and try to re-draw them nicely... I suck at legs... It takes me awhile to get them right. I think it's because I cant really "see" the whole drawing untill I draw it and see how it looks. I think thats why positions and stuff are hard or me..

oh gosh! sorry, I let my messages get away from me for a while @_@;;
Yah, I think my problem is not looking ahead until it's too late and I run into problems sometimes.. So I have to consciously think "how do I want this thing to look in the end?" when I'm drawing. lol
I know some people do mini (like 1"x1" big) sketches in the corner of their pages to sort out positioning and stuff. So maybe you could try that (:
In the end though, it doesn't matter so much how things get done, just that they do get done (that said, the method can help make the thing less difficult to do at times lol)

Yeah I know as long as you get something that you like out in the end then how you got there doesn't really matter, but also certain methods coupld make it easier. I hate it when I struggle through a picture. It's so much more rewarding and fun when it just comes out and I get that feeling of " I really like this". But that's usually just due to the right amount of inspiration. Btw sorry for late comment... I had a busy period at school...

This is awesome! I actually had a swing picture for `loish that I should redo and finish, because swing pictures are so much fun.
DUDE did I talk about myself in EACH comment I gave you? GOD. Sorry. I must be feeling extra vain and needy today or something (but I'll blame the lack of sleep or whatever)
The horns are really cute! and I like the hands! The details in the outfit are really nice, too!

thank you so much!!
I'm really glad someone can appreciate the work!
It's a little daunting to work hard at something and get a constant crit. I don't mind crits at all, but when I've been told something in particular is bad a bazillion times it gets a little disheartening 'cause I keep hearing it XD; lol
Maybe the real disheartening part is thinking I was on the right track and being told I wasn't.. then I just feel like "how could I be so blind?? D:" lol!

yep. She plays for The Bahamas National Youth Choir (she's amazing!!)
She tried to teach me when I was about 4, but I hated piano! XD;;; Now, of course, I wish I'd stuck with it. I ended up doing guitar though... but I took a break in my last year of high school to do exams and just never went back D:
(two mistakes I wish I didn't make... I stop doing a lot of things I wish I had continued though)

HYUUU!β₯ I thought you might have left DA or something I haven't heard from you in sooo long! @_@
haha; I find that when I'm too relaxed I tend to mess up faces (pretty badly). But when I'm not relaxed the whole thing looks stiff @n@;; I think maybe I need to start just paying attention to the face alone.. doing some face studies or something, I don't know. Could you tell me how exactly I could improve the face?? (I won't change it on this one, but in future I'll try to remember)..
Still, even though it's off, I think I still really like (like I said, it makes me feel like I've done something constructive..which is rare.. haha XD), but thanks muchos for the crit. I'll really really try to keep in mind that I have to work on faces! ^^
