Description
LostPine needles sweep red lines across my arms
And hard rocks grab my feet
The unfamiliar forest stands impassive around me
And I shiver in the falling of the silvery sleet
Snarling, the tree limbs extend out at me
Reaching to pull me into a not-so-soft embrace
The more I run, the less I know
I realize my reality as I race
I halt in my tracks to take a look at my surroundings
The air slowly begins to cool
Hopelessness casts it's iron grip on my blood
Sometimes the falling night can be so cruel
Britches fight pines, fight aspens and willow trees
Standing tall over me the wooden battle rages
Wind-swept branches bash each other in the air above me
And fall down around me, creating great wooden cages
Trapped in the ignorance of where I am
Lightning crackles and starts a fire burning
Whirlwinds bend the bright flames to their will
Whipping, lashing, stirring, turning
Flames screeching fast toward me on all sides
And pillars of wood falling above
I close my eyes tight against the inevitable
And await the forest's twisted form of love
As I easy my eyes open, it's not burning wood that I see
But the morning light and mattress soft
And so I realize it was all an illusion
And I wasn't really ever lost
