Description
This one is an effort at creating a world map for the rather sketchily described pre-nuclear-war setting of the Fallout game series. Fallout is something of an AtomicPunk world, with technology more like an upgraded 1950s than anything logically following from our world: the USSR is still around in 2076, although it is no longer the principal enemy of the US, having fallen behind China both economically and technologically. China, which has modernized while remaining a dictatorship, is the primary Evil Empire. (Indeed, US-Soviet relations are relatively cordial nowadays)The US is rather different, having been reorganized for supposed efficiency into a number of confederations occupying an intermediary political level between state and federal. With the increasing economic and environmental crises of the 21st century, the US has become increasingly dictatorial, and has occupied both unstable Mexico and, more recently, uncooperative Canada to gain better control of their resources.
It's a bit of a messed up world: the last of the oil is running out, global-warming related desertification is increasing, and nuclear power is apparently more difficult to control and prone to disastrous failure modes than in our world. A form of fusion power cell has been build, but it is still so expensive to built in large sizes that it has not yet made a serious dent in the power shortage. A united Europe went to war for cheaper oil in the 60s against an Arab coalition: after a horrible bloodbath, the middle East was a wreck and there was no oil to have: bitter recriminations and eventually civil war followed. Tel Aviv was nuked and the Israelis did not respond very forgivingly.
Now, China and the US are fighting over the last scraps of oil in Alaska and the oil pipeline: The US has launched a counterattack on the Chinese mainland, and the Chinese fear the Americans will join up with their (largely kept secret from the outside world) internal rebellions....the world is on the brink of nuclear catastrophe.

while the US and China was fighting for Alaska and its oil fields, Mass Fusion had found a perfect and infinite power alternative to replace Oil. I mean, it has to be infinite, its been running for 210 years unattended and still going strong. if only the war never went nuclear, we could've mass produced the solution to all of our power problems that was originally solved with oil
I think it would've been a cool little feature is u put a tiny bit of territory on the western part of the US as "Brotherhood of Steel Territory" because there was a time in the pre war era were they owned a little bit of land

No, there was no such time in the pre war era. The US army garrison in the Mariposa Military Base under the leadership of Captain Roger Maxson rebelled on 20th October 2077 and took over the base. On the next day they brought their families into the base and then fortified inside the base, waiting for any reaction of the goverment, and on the October 23 the bombs fell. And AFTER that, sometime in November, they migrated to Lost Hills bunker and THEN they founded the Brotherhood of Steel. So no, BoS didn't own any land in pre war era, nor their predecessor "faction" didn't. They just sat in an underground base for a few last days of the pre war era.

I know that. I was saying that would be a cool thing to see. they weren't brotherhood yet, I know, but they took control of that bit of land. I'm saying like a dot on the map. I'm not an idiot

No wonder Mr. House didn't even want to try 'save the world'. From everything it sounds it just wasn't worth saving.
Nukes were coup de grace.

More than that, House had it down to a near-mathematical certainty at that point that nuclear war was going to happen.Β However this world could've been saved from the nukes, it was already too late for it by House's time.

Doesn't make sense for the USSR to hold more land than in our timeline, considering they pretty much kept to their own business in the FO timeline, and China was the expansionist instead.
So it doesn't make sense for Romania (other countries as well to be part of the USSR.
Even more than that it doesn't make sense for Romania to be united with Moldova, while being part of the USSR. That is just as impossible as dividing a number by zero. Sure, they would probably be united in 2077 but only if they were both independent prior to the union.
IF Romania was indeed part of the USSR in the FO timeline then so should be Yugoslavia... however we can see that Yugoslavia is split, somehow. A revolution (in order to split the country) makes no sense while being part of the USSR. Not to mention that Croatia seems to be part of the EC. The communist world wouldn't allow a part of it to just jump ship to the "enemy".

Some of the things I never got, or maybe missed, in the Fallout reality.
1.Β Is why wasn't more research put into alternative power systems, like solar, alcohol fuel and biodiesel?
2.Β The Vaults were not for protecting "regular" people, they were labs to experiment on people, OK but were did all the "important" people go? Were there vaults for them? Other than thatΒ oil rig.
3.Β The seasons don't change as time passes. Why? I think there was something said as to why but I can't remember/find it.

1. Oil was cheaper and easier to access, plus I'm assuming that, since this is a 50's-style future, they never explored those options as much or the necessity of petroleum and uranium meant the alternatives just wouldn't cut it.
2. There was a Vault from which the corporate execs and heads of Vault-tec could watch over the other vaults and see the results of the experiments.
3. The Great War triggered a massive change in global climate patterns and probably damaged the Ozone layer, resulting what is primarily a desert-type climate. However, it can still snow in some places.

This map is bull....
US has 350 millions of peoples and many many Vaults if compared to RF. RF has 150 millions of peoples and almost no civil anti Fallout Vaults = 90% of their peoples will be vanquished by nuclear strike .
May USSR will occupy some regions but European folks loving their freedom so they will not live in the Red Terror (The Berlins' Wall, Czechoslovakia is a beautiful examples how Europeans living under red terror).
In general US democracy is more tough and flexible then any other totalitarian regime.
You have misunderstood World History, and maybe you saw a too many red propaganda cinematography... And I have no doubts you did not leave in the USSR in real life ;O

I can't believe I haven't commented on this before... I really love this map! It really showcases the messed up, apocalyptic (instead of post-apocalyptic) pre-war Fallout world, and exponentially increases the dissonance of the idyllic 50s life of the isolated Americans compared to the harsh reality of the dwindling world. I also love how it's quite lore-friendly yet also alternate-history-friendly as well.
Though I love it, I do have a few nitpicks, especially with what's going on in South America, and also, isn't the European Commonwealth supposed to be completely dissolved after the Oil War? And come to think of it, didn't JE Sawyer mention Italy was one of the more anarchistic places around? Well from the Wikia article anyways.
PS. as an Indonesian, since you made Indonesia a US ally, I would imagine it's reflective of the Suharto regime, which contradicts the quasi-50s setting, though it perfectly fits the cold war setting otherwise. And, something completely unrelated, but I would also imagine the Soviet Union swaps places with China as the main weapons exporter as well, so I could imagine a lot of these factions armed with AK-112s, even if they're not leftist-aligned, just an observation.

Agreed.Β Imagining a version of this world where the Great War DIDN'T happen, where things just kept chugging along until they well and truly broke down entirely, it isn't a pretty picture.Β As much as it ruined the Earth and destroyed global civilization, the Great War was also a chance for humanity to start again with a more-or-less clean slate.

Awesome map! I just have a few questions.
what caused India to break up?
how come Europe, Israel and England aren't supporting the USA against China?
which side of the war do the soviets support, if any?Β
What happened to Mexico that caused it to be annexed by the USA.
Are the Europeans, Chinese, Soviets or anyone else working on a vault system like the USA is, and if so, does it end up working more effectively, leading to more advanced civilizations in other arias of the world.Β

I know your post was a long time ago but I'm going to answer your questions to the best of my lore knowledge
1: India broke up because of the chaos resulting from society as they knew it blowing up in their face due to petroleum running out for a lot of the world (You'll be seeing that a lot
2: Because the EU and UN broke down due to everyone fighting over the world's last little bits of petroleum left
3: The Soviets just kinda kicked back and watched the world explode (Until they exploded along with everyone else) because they had all of Siberia to metaphorically fuck with oil drills (Does anyone even really live up there?)
4: Mexico was annexed by the US because (You guessed it!) the US needed oil to fuel the Anchorage Reclamation
5: Frankly there isn't enough (actually there is no lore to go off of, only guesses) lore to go off of for this question. The Vaults were really only designed to be experiments that the Enclave (Pretty much the US Department of War and other US Politicians that didn't want to blow up) could use on the population of the US while all the radiation subsided. I guess it'd be somewhat obvious that not only the US would see the upcoming Nuclear Holocaust and would've built nuke shelters for their populations. But we have NO lore to go off of (as far as I know)

It's a really cool 1950s point of view of the future. I mean. Think about it. The USSR still exist. Germans and French are still nit picking and global warming starting to become widely noticed. Back in those days I'm sure that's what a lot of people would think the future would be.
