Kuei, walking outside on the palace grounds in Ba Sing Se, got a surprise when the Dai Li agent sitting at the outdoor palace bench spoke in a familiar, sultry voice. "Going somewhere, Your Majesty?"

Zafirah was cleverly keeping the upper part of her face hidden as she grinned at him. The uniform certainly fit her well, and he would, if pressed, admit he liked the effect it had on him.

But agents like that had tossed him into a jail a year before, and it was hard to forget that. He kept silent as he looked at Zafirah in her form-fitting Dai Li outfit.

She uncrossed her legs, stood up, and said, "Something wrong?"

He gently reached up, tugging the hat off Zafirah's head. Kuei replied, "It's you, but in a Dai Li outfit, Zafirah."

Zafirah's face grew somber. She reached up to grasp his shoulder reassuringly. "But it's still me, right?"

He felt better as he could now see her face and hair, which had been expertly braided. He looked into her eyes and said, "That would be right."

She grinned as though she were about to win the Pai Sho game again. "Well then, why don't we go find some place where you'll be able to take it off of me without raising eyebrows? C'mon, I'm the very bad Dai Li agent and you're gonna remove my uniform."

Kuei grabbed Zafirah's hand and said, "Come with me; I believe the Royal Bedchambers should be ready by now."

"Lookin' forward to it," replied Zafirah saucily.

No further words needed to be exchanged between the two lovers.
