When models do not have much resolution I try to divert attention to other parts of the scene. I think the point of view I chose was the most successful. I also wish to obtain a backlight but with HDRI files is not always possible.

You could do a 'double render'. One render for the right amount of background lighting, and one render with the IBL turned up real high. The last one will have an almost white background, but will provide the wanted lighting on your model. Then simply load both renders in photoshop or Gimp, and keep the parts you need/want.

It is an option I will use. For now, I try to make my renders at once, with all elements not to use post-production even though this limits some final results.
