After Blossom Mac got married, Apple Bloom moved out of the farmhouse to stay with the other Crusaders, and Granny Smith was moved to a nursing home, Applejack found herself faced with a severe case of empty nest syndrome. With only Winona to keep her company, she felt an empty sort of loneliness that she tried ot remedy by constantly visiting and trying to plan activities with her friends. Though they all enjoy spending time with the mare, you can only invite yourself to so many family dinners before it starts to get annoying. Eventually, Dusk Moonlight confronted AJ about this, and she explained that she was just feeling lonely. Dusk suggested trying to find Applejack a special somepony, but she was against the idea, as she felt romance wasn't what she needed. She needed... a family. Of course, she still had her own family, but she wanted somepony she could care for and raise and love with her whole heart. She wanted a child. After many months of consideration, Applejack decided to have a child via sperm donation, and a year later, Harvest Moon was born.

Harvey is a strong, soft spoken, good ol' country boy who doesn't tolerate any unkindness on his farm. He's accepting of creatures of all kinds, and has a passion for fighting for justice. Though his cutie mark is for farming, his true goal in life is to join the Equestrian Council for Universal Conservation, and spend his life protecting the lives of others. The council travels thed lands outside of Equestria, doing their best to spread light and friendship, and organizing peaceful protests, political strategies, and economic systems for other nations.

Harvey is very close to his brother Biscotti. Tough they aren't biologically brothers, they grew up together, and were inseparable as colts. Biscotti gave Harvey someone his age to spend time with, and Harvey gave Biscotti a sense of family and love that he'd been missing. They know each other better than even their mother knows them, and they have an unbreakable bond.

Harvey isn't as close to Buttercup as he is to Scott, but he loves his sister with all his heart. He is the main cause of her getting into cooking, as he would eat anything she made, no matter how bad it was. He was always there to encourage her to keep doing what she loved. Harvey sometimes feels alienated from his sister, as she is the biological child of AJ and Rara, while he doesn't even know his father's name.

Gala and Harvey have a less-than-ideal relationship. Gala is the opposite of his big brother-- loud, obnoxious, whiny, and overall a bit mean-spirited. Harvey has tried time and time again to teach the colt that his behavior isn't acceptable, but Gala doesn't seem to care. Harvey has just about given up on him.

Of all Harvey's cousins, he's closest to Geode, who often visits Sweet Apple Acres to study the wildlife there-- mostly birds. Harvey is always curious about her work, and she's happy to ramble about all the amazing species of birds that live around the farm. Harvey knows quite a bit about birds thanks to her visits.

Though he's generally accepting and friendly to all creatures, Harvey despises Midnight Glow. Unlike most ponies, Harvey sees the stallion for what he truly is-- a manipulative, dishonest, selfish homewrecker. He's watched Midnight break the hearts of many ponies without a second thought, simply because he was bored of them, or they no longer benefited him. Harvey doesn't think he'll ever understand why Midnight does what he does.

Harvey sees Ebony almost as a better version of Gala. He's bold and passionate, but not rude or overzealous. He's everything Harvey wishes Gala would be. Ebony greatly admires Harvey, from his noble profession to his ability to hurl the colt through the air like a dart. Little does Harvey know that every minute he spends bonding with Ebony is another brick in the wall between him and Gala.
