Description
I get a lot of comments on my other tutorials of people asking whether it's actually possible to cut the canes after baking. You can cut your canes before or after baking. Personally I prefer baking them first, because if you do cut them before that, it's quite likely that they will get messed up on the inside. However, it does get easier if you put the canes in the freezer for about ten minutes before cutting them.
If you do choose to cut them after baking, you'll need a very sharp cutting tool like a razor blade, otherwise it probably won't work.
Apart from that, it's important that your cane is not too thick. Everything with a diameter of more that about 0,8 cm is very hard to cut. I'm not saying it's impossible, but unless you have a reeeally sharp blade, I wouldn't recommend it!

So yesterday I suddenly felt the urge to make another tutorial. And being the impatient person I am when it comes to this kind of thing, I obviously had to do it in the evening instead if waiting until the morning. So I'm really sorry for the bad lighting, I know it sucks...
This tutorial has actually been requested by quite a few people. If you want my personal opinion, I don't think these things look that much like bananas at all, but...the 'standard clay banana slice' seems to look like this, so I decided to just go along with it.
Anyway, hope you like this tutorial

They do look like banana slices! I just started to introduce my young niece to Sculpey clay -- she was so thrilled that she could make beads, bake them and wear them.

Nice That reminds me of when I made clay beads when I was young...I think those were also the first things I made, except my failed attempt at making a black horse after watching Black Beauty

Looks like a yellow Kiwi, which is related. It looks tasty either way but I agree it doesn't look much like a banana, though I would still be able to tell what it was so maybe it doesn't need to look like one as long as it conveys the idea. very concise tutorial btw.

hmm i tried the rolling out technique, but when i cut it o see the inside, all the colors just smushed and blended together. not at all like this. maybe i just used the wrong clay? does it make a difference?

I suppose the kind of clay you use might make a difference...I've never used anything but Fimo because it's hard to get Sculpey and all the others where I live. But using Fimo I've never had a problem.
I don't know if it would make a difference, but maybe putting the whole thing in the freezer for ten minutes or so before rolling it out might do the trick...?

On these tutorials, when you say "cane," what do you mean? Is that just a term for a long, round piece of clay, or are you making candy canes or something? (Pardon my ignorance; but I'm interested in making stuff out of clay. )

If no one ends giving you a better answer: A cane is a rolled up piece of clay, usually with a decoration inside, meant to be cut into pieces. See that last step where they have the banana all made into a long piece? That's the cane. It was made by rolling pieces into a log and then rolling out out til it was all squished together nicely. Hope that helps!
