These are really great interpretations of zodiac trolls! My favourite is probably Terezi, for how well she walks the border between cute and uncanny-valley creepy. I like how you went with actual embodied scales instead of the blindfolded-woman-holding-scales I've seen before.

QueenOfTheAntz In reply to the-zilla [2012-07-02 11:01:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I'm happy to get so much positive response on Terezi, because I thought she was a little bit tricky to do... As you said, I could have done the blinfolded-woman, but I wanted to more morph them together with their sign, no just hold it!

Is Aradia supposed to be a satyr?

QueenOfTheAntz In reply to Yami-Shioko [2012-07-01 19:13:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Well, I just mixed them with their signs, and actually I thought a bit on a satyr when I did Aradia!

Yami-Shioko In reply to QueenOfTheAntz [2012-07-01 20:42:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah XD

Because Aries is supposed to be the ram that ferried Phrixos and his sister, Helle, to Colchis. But Helle fell off and died.
The ram was then sacrificed and what was left of it was the Golden Fleece. The ram was placed in the stars as Aries.

Oh, yes I think my Grandpa told me that story when I was little! I love the stories of the star signs, but I don't know all of them. Maybe I should read them, it could probably be interesting!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Yami-Shioko In reply to QueenOfTheAntz [2012-07-01 21:27:23 +0000 UTC]

They are very interesting. I love mythology and etymology.

The one for Capricorn is really cool! There are two of them!

The first is of the god Pan. He's the patron god of the satyrs - half goat, half man creatures. He was being chased by a monster, so to escape it, he jumped into the Nile river. The half that stayed above water remained goat, but his lower half - the one that was submerged - turned into a fish!

The other is that Capricorn represents the cities on the Tigris. One of its horns is Babylon, while the other is Niveneh. It's really cool!

And did you know that Cancer was the crab, Karkinos? It was sent by Hera to distract Heracles on his task to kill the Hydra that dwelt within the swamps of Lerna. However...it couldn't complete its task as it was stepped on by Heracles.

And Scorpio is the scorpion that Artemis sent to kill Orion for his arrogance.

QueenOfTheAntz In reply to Yami-Shioko [2012-07-02 11:09:45 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I have always wondered over Capricorn, and the fish half! And the cancer story is also new to me! It is really cool to get the explanation. A strange I have noticed is that the signs is different in different languages! Cancer is a crab in english (and probably in most languages) but in swedish the sign is called "the crawfish". It is not very different, but still a interesting! And if you look at Karkat, he has the tail of a crawfish, rather than a crab in my drawing.

It looked like a lobster to me >XD

Virgo has several stories, actually! Did you know in one she's Erigone, the daughter of Icarius, who was taught the secrets of wine making by Dionysus. In grief, she hung herself and her ever faithful dog, Maera. The gods pitied them, and put them in the stars: Icarius was Bootes, Maera was Canis Minor, and Erigone became Virgo.

Another tells of Astraea who was the Greek goddess of Innocence, and the upholder of law - she is usually depicted with her scales. She was the last of the gods to leave the mortal world - but when she did, she fled to the stars. She became Virgo, while her scales became Libra.

QueenOfTheAntz In reply to Yami-Shioko [2012-07-02 11:23:58 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty amazing stories, I think! The first one about the Virgo is really sad. It might be a little bit silly, but I can't help but think of which great movies these stories would do! If you put some work to it.

Yami-Shioko In reply to QueenOfTheAntz [2012-07-02 11:33:15 +0000 UTC]

They very well could be! XD I learned a lot of things when I was doing research for a story. I was trying to associate characters with zodiac signs. So there was Kinros Lerna, Panthros Nile, and Charon Teach.
Charon doesn't make much sense, does it?
Charon is the ferryman who guides the souls of the dead to the Underworld. HOWEVER, it sounds uncannily like Chiron.
Chiron is a centaur - a teacher of heroes. He was granted immortality so that he could continue to pass his knowledge. However, he was shot with a poisonous arrow. Because of his immortality, he could not die - and spent years in agony, as if his whole body was on fire.
To spare him, the gods put him in the stars as the constellation, Sagittarius.

This is amazing! I have heard some stories separate, but never remembered if the main person in one tale were in any other stories, since I was pretty young when I heard them! The Chiron story has parts that I have heard, but never connected. And you should have all credit for doing so much research! Have you learned everything from your story research, or were you interested in the stars and their legends before that? I'm just curious, You seem to have so much knowledge in this! c:

Yami-Shioko In reply to QueenOfTheAntz [2012-07-02 18:35:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Chiron taught a lot of heroes - I just can't remember most of them ^^" I think Jason was one...
Actually, the astrology myths were mainly from my research for my story (okay, a fanfiction I have posted on here >.>). The stars have always fascinated me, but not nearly as much now - since I've been using constellations for OCs.
But I've always been interested in myths - especially Greek. I know a lot about it. And a fair amount of Egyptian, Norse, and some Asian myth. It's really awesome. I love myths.

I love them too! Even if I know more about the old nordic gods, and just some stories from Greek, even if they often are the most adventurous ones! And I love the old tales that was told just 200 years ago among the farmers, about trolls, witches and other creatures! It is like being a detective of some sort, because you find many explanations to behavior today, and the old myths! And yes, I actually recall Jason as a hero taught by a centaur! I think I should read about the egyptian tales too, I have only heard a few from a children book that my sister got. But there were just three or four very short stories, so there is a lot more to find out about! (:
Yeah, it is really awesome.

My favorite gods are like...a huge tie. Artemis, the goddess of the hunt and the moon; Poseidon, the ruler of the sea; Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war; and then Nyx, the personification of darkness and night XD And those are just Greek!
It's awesome. Arthurian and Celtic myths are awesome, too! King Arthur has such an awesome story behind him!
It is very awesome. I've got this huge encyclopedia just on various myths! Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Christian, Norse, Celtic...

QueenOfTheAntz In reply to Yami-Shioko [2012-07-02 21:17:15 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like an awesome encyclopedia! Your favorite gods seem to be great, I recognize most of them! My favorite gods are hard to tell... There are many great ones! But my favorite mythological creatures are, among others, Hugin and Munin. It is Oden's two ravens, and they serve him as spies. You have probably heard of them? I got this comic-book when I was little, Valhalla, in which the ravens have a significant role in my favorite part! I think that comic-book is a great way to show how fun old tales are, not just walls of too small words in a history book at school. A book that is worth the read, but just doesn't look very inviting. :/ Even if you shouldn't judge the book by it's cover. Or it's size of letters. X)

Of course I do. He began to use them after he lost his eye! They aided him a lot in battle.
Norse mythology is preeeeeettty cool. Love it
I should look into that!
