Description Figured I might as well. Could motivate me to posting more things I've made lately.
So yes, this is the influence map meme that's floating around DA right now. Since I mainly work with my hands rather than digital stuff it's not perfect, but it still gets the basic idea across. (AND YES, I WAS TOO LAZY TO PUT MY NAME IN BRAD! ) Most of these pictures I grabbed off of ze googles so yeah, don't own some of them. obviously. Otherwise I'd be rich as hell.
From smallest to largest:

.)silhouette art: it's been the main influence of my crafts as of late. I like the simple, elegant designs and black on white. (picture is my silhouette done at disneyland earlier this year.)

.)STRIPES: I love stripes, have made many a thing that involve them. as you can see this continues my love of black/white combinations. (probably due to the stark contrast?)

.)skull motifs/designs: I find them nifty. Especially this dapper gent right here with his top hat and cigar, all he needs is a monocle!

.)nautical motifs: Pirates and period naval stories have been a part of my life for awhile. PotC, Horatio Hornblower, Aubrey/Maturin series (the books Master and Commander was based on.) Design wise I enjoy the various ship styles and the clothing. One thing that my design collection teacher pointed out is my designs from the fashion show had a uniform/military style to them. I blame my love of old naval uniforms for this.

.)I love tea, teacups, pretty pretty princess tea parties with pretty tea wares and delicious snackibles. And that love makes me want to design and make pretty teapartyable clothing sometimes.

.) Steam Powered Giraffe. Seriously, watching them perform and listening to their music makes me get off my lazy ass and get going on things. Not to mention they're VERY entertaining. i particularly love their back stories and pseudo history. for more, see www.steampoweredgiraffe.com

.)Kimono designs and motifs. Opposed to the silhouette motifs, I love how detailed and intricate they can be combined with the variety of styles and ways to wear them.

.)Disney. Like many a kid, I grew up on watching classic Disney animated films and still love them to this day. The music, characters, etc I'm pretty sure are forever ingrained in my psyche. And I go to Disneyland way too much.

.) Victorian Fashion. bustles, bustles, bustles!!!!

.) film. I have a collection of movies ranging from silent film to sci-fi/fantasy. I think it's a great story telling medium combining moving images with sound. (The majority of my music collection is movie scores.) When I'm either constructing a project or doodling a possible one I've often got a movie playing that suits my mood, usually one I'm really familiar with.

.)ghost, occult, etc stories. Spooky stuff in general really, and the older the better. I've always had an interest since I was a kid. And apparently I used to tell weird ghost stories to my classmates (according to a friend I had in first grade.) go figure.

.) Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket. I began reading A Series of Unfortunate Events around the time they started coming out when I was in elementary school. And I always eagerly anticipated the next year's book release all the way through high school. His writing meant a lot me, especially as a kid feeling that sometimes the adults around here were pretty damn oblivious to things. And of course his sense of humor. I also enjoyed this weird pseudo time period he created with a combination of fashion styles and places that seem to have been anywhere from the Victorian period to modern day. For me, it completely worked and I wish the everyday world could look more like his did.
