Third in my Alberta Bird series, this is the Great Grey Owl. It's rare for a city gal like me to spot one of these but I was lucky enough, early one morning, right outside my front door. I was leaving for work before dawn, and as I walked from my house to my car something huge swooped down right over my head, and up into a tree across the street! I looked up and saw one of these guys looking down at me. What struck me as singular about the incident was the fact that it made absolutely no sound as it flew. I had never noticed before that birds make a sound as they fly, but it was the absolute absence of sound that stood out to me with this fellow.
