Description
With Halloween around the corner, I decided to paint one of my favorite characters in the horror scene, Pinhead from the Hellraiser series.
As a horror fan, I aimed to do something different within the horror genre. Usually, portraits of Hellraiser are full of blacks and grays and look very gloomy. I wanted to take a different route by painting something wild, colorful, beautiful, and dark. Hope you guys and gals like the results.

Thanks! Hellraiser has been a cult classic for me and I've always wanted to draw a horror themed character with my colorful 80s' palette.

Just had to send this to my brother. He used to have a poster from that movie in his room and it freaking terrified me as a kid.
Haven't ever been able to watch any of those types of films since then haha, but when I saw this in TsaoShin 's features I knew I had to get over it so I could show it to my brother.

Thank you! When it comes to Pinhead, you gotta go all in. He's such a fun character. Every year I told myself I'd paint him but always second-guessed myself. I'm so happy I just went for it. I'm equally happy for the DD since it gives more exposure to horror in general.

Thank you! Glad you love the color palette! It took awhile to get there; I even had to take a break from Pinhead to go in with a fresh perspective. I told myself I wanted to create a colorful yet dark piece of Pinhead, especially when there are so many out there with the same dark tones. Color is fun though! Some spots in this piece are my favorite, particularly in the fleshy bits. You got intense sick pinks clashing with cool blues. It's both disturbing but visually pleasing to me.

Thank you! Although, I'm super surprised this got a DD. O_O I was already happy a few horror enthusiasts saw this and liked it. But now it's being shown in a bigger, general audience. Horror normally doesn't get much love due to its content. But I hope to create horror/dark themed works that can touch even the non-horror/dark person.

Thank you so much for this comment. O_O Balancing color and vibrancy with the dark tones/elements of this character was a challenge. Still, I really wanted to create something that was akin to the fauve artists who mixed wild and bold colors together to create some vibrant and disturbing imagery.

Haha, yeah. I wanted to try something different. My styles and themes tend to clash beauty with horror. I like the allure of it. Pinhead himself is an alluring and mysterious character. I'm so glad I finally got around to painting him at last. <3Β

Yeah, it took longer than usual to complete this. o_o Most of the time was spent with the colors. I wanted something wild and sick. Thank you so much for taking the time to check it out. And yeah, Hellraiser 1 (and 2) are among my favorite films too!
