Description This is was a Christmas Gift for my Aunt and Uncle, something i put together in less than an hour.

It's Water Colour and Acrylics on canvas... don't remember the dimensions.

What this really is, is a result of a entirely new concept that struck my mind while Driving Home for Christmas, I'll get back to that later, but i can mention that it would be best described as a mix of Alan Wake, Heart of Darkness (98 Video Game), Steampunk/Pirate elements, and a somewhat Post Apocalyptic setting.

Take this as my little Christmas greeting, as I've not been able to do much digital painting lately.

So have a Merry Christmas you all, and a Happy New year!
And to all my new watchers, I deeply appreciate your support, and thank you ever so much! That goes for all my watchers, just want to let everybody know

I didn't realize that was done with water color and acrylics, that's amazing; i would love to try to draw that (I'm only good with sketching) but that might a little to complicated (with all the black and dots and whatnot) but still that amazing

Thank you!
When it comes to to all the black splatter, it is simply the use of a rather wet black paint that I literary threw onto the canvas. It creates a really unique look.
You should just try and experiment with what you have and see new possibilities!

:I i have no imagination so i cant really do anything original so i sketch other drawings, and even if i attempted to draw that it, it would smear really badly because it's so dark (that's what you meant when you said experiment with what i have right?)

Imagination is something you'll develop as you start catching interest for details and get the true feeling of creating new or existing things with your own twist. It's just a matter of finding that initial spark!

Well experimenting is really about thinking of new ways of doing things, and that applies to basically anything, for instance, as everyone has their taste for food, you can find a flavor you like really well, and then come to think of another that you believe would compliment it, then you start experimenting with food, thinking of new ways to make it work the way you want... I know it's a strange example but it's one everyone can relate to... as it is something we need to stay alive

:I i don't really know how to respond to that.........it won't be vary easy for me to do something like that (not saying that it's generally easy to do that)because i'm not like most people :I

Neither am I, but the point still remains, imagination just needs to be ignited

I knew you could do something equally amazing with trady tools!
the flow of darkness, the liquid look...this is beauty indeed, a dark beauty albeit, but one of awe non the less

did you do any pre sketches for this ? or did you just go head on the canvas with your paints?

awesome work man, i would love to be able to buy a bigger version of this some time off you

The artistic skills one possess always translates to other mediums, with varied results of course.

I did firstly just draw a rectangle and scrible on a shape i imagined, but that's it' the rest is just improvisation.

He he, if you're a fan of traditional paints on canvas i could always try to make one one day, but digitally I'd acheve a better result my friend

i know, digital art for me is perfection
but sometimes, we need some imperfections through traditional mediums, to remind us that our mistakes come back to us, and haunt us

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragaru In reply to PhoenixGR [2011-12-26 21:21:22 +0000 UTC]

Indeed.. but remember that traditional art has some expressions and an accessibility that digital art still have a way to go before it can achieve!

PhoenixGR In reply to Ragaru [2011-12-27 01:24:40 +0000 UTC]

as i said before, it is through improvisation and imperfection that true art is made, and that is why trady art is so much more accepted by the general populace

btw, i meant the other comment to be on this deviation, but i got slightly mixed up, either way, both of your works are leaps of faith that im not personally ready to take

Ragaru In reply to PhoenixGR [2011-12-27 01:34:40 +0000 UTC]

I see what you're at there, I fully agree!

That's understandable, it's a long time since I last suddenly uploaded 4 deviations in a row

Again, Thanks my friend!

PhoenixGR In reply to Ragaru [2011-12-27 02:52:03 +0000 UTC]

im glad we share an understanding on this
if only we could persuade the people that digital art has its faults as well, that way they will respect it as well ? haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragaru In reply to PhoenixGR [2011-12-27 03:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Not all will agree, due to their own understandings and views.. others are too arrogant to even care for it, meaning that whatever you say, they'll state it's undeniably perfection, though the artist is the one that have to make sure of that. Even though digital means perfection, digital art is executed at in such a way it is to be considered an analog expression.

PhoenixGR In reply to Ragaru [2012-01-11 10:40:13 +0000 UTC]

yes it is, but not widely, not yet, it still is much easier, relaxing and less distracting to sketch on paper than it is on a screen, and it always will be. dont you think?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ragaru In reply to PhoenixGR [2012-01-11 12:52:14 +0000 UTC]

It will indeed, when sketching on paper, you depend on light and adjust thereby, what you do might be smudged but not erased should you lack electricity.
Digital is always a bright lit screen tiring the eyes, and what you do is entirely dependent of a power source.

and digital is quite distracting, but ill get round to it eventually

First of all (a late) Merry Christmas mate

The story I get from the picture and your comment (and a little bit of mine )

Pirates invaded a small port village where they killed everyone, except a little girl who walks into the sea.
Ever since the sea has turned black and people make stories and myths about how it became cursed.
All the while the sea is shipwrecking pirate ships and pulling pirates down to the sea bed where they see her glowing white face and black tears while they slowly drown.

Hmm, I think I put a little much emphasis on the pirate part..

Ragaru In reply to Jagged88 [2011-12-26 14:20:28 +0000 UTC]

And to you a Merry late Christmas salutation, may you also have a Happy New Year!

That is poetically a magnificent vision I must say!
The story I have however is quite different from that, but there will be focus on the sea as well, but mainly that is where you want to be be staying away from

Well you just made me want to lean it more towards pirates than steampunk now.. but that would conflict with the current settings I have. You'll see in time

Have a good year my friend!

hehe your too kind.

..It's pirates they always f*ck sh*t up..

(I'm excited to read that note to see how you tie the steampunk part in now)

May it bring much creativity, efficiency and artistical revelations... And great good!

Ha ha, yes them Pirates don't follow the rules... Only their own code... Makes big a mess out of things
... Still gotta love them and their mighty ships!

Hope you find anything interesting or inspiring reading trough it!

And that is quite the interesting mix. How does the pirate elements work into the setting?

They did certainly appreciate it, judging by their reaction

I'll get back to that once I've structured the fundamental aspects of the concepts, have to many ideas floating around it, need to grab on to those that will connect best
