“ Aahahaha, i just want this to be done. ” Aline hit send and pocketed her cell phone, everyone was asleep in Washington State except for Silva who was on the East Coast with Big Sky, she was probably getting ready too. Aline washed her hands and put her mask on before leaving her room, she had woken up way too early from nerves and could see that a thunderstorm was brewing outside. She had no problems with thunderstorms and rain, it was the show… she would much rather not but she wanted to get Gold Rush out there and get some experience and despite everything, she knew this was also good for her too. She trembled at the thought and double checked her pockets for her key card phone, wallet, and keys before closing the door. She could hear rumbling in the distance though she hadn’t seen any flashes of light yet. She headed down to the lobby and out the doors and headed towards the western barn. Just as a flash of lightning lit the sky up and a loud peal of thunder rolled across the hills, Aline shivered with anticipation, and from the sudden gust of wind that blew from the west bringing the darker clouds and a wall of rain with it. Another flash of light brightened everything for a split second with a cacophony of air rapidly heating and expanding in the sky above and with it the wall of rain reached the equestrian park and soaked all who were caught outside. Aline suppressed a giggle as she watched some run for cover. She had her coat on already and went on walking past the other barns before reaching the one where Gold Rush was Stabled. Country music was playing on a radio and someone was humming along to it though it was barely audible with the sound of a cloud dumping all of its water in one go on the roof above. Aline tuned out the music from her mind and focused on feeding and cleaning out Gold Rush's stall as he ate. He nudged her once or twice as he repositioned to drink water. She just gave him space along with neck and back scritches as he made his way past and went back to picking out the poo from out of the good shavings and finding the pee spots he had left overnight. After that she got out the grooming box and got to work on getting him clean. The arena was outside and she had bathed him the night before after a good workout and she figured the rain wasn't going to let up too soon. So she just got most of the new stuff up and off so his golden palomino coat could shine, cleaned his hooves and started tacking him up. He had finished breakfast by then and was getting playful. She told him no and he quieted down and took the bit as she slipped his bridle on. She led him out of the stall and put on her hat and discarded her jacket in the tack box and they headed out to warm up. She started trembling again and Gold Rush gave her a boop as if to say what are you worrying about? Aren’t I the one who's supposed to be freaking out? New surroundings? loud noises outside? Aline took a deep breath and let it out, that's right. She is calm, she is the dove in the storm. It's okay if things go wrong or not as planned so long as they are not life threatening. She placed her hand on his neck and they proceeded to walk over to the warm up area.
She slipped her mask off and pocketed it as they were outside and hardly anyone was closer than 6 feet. She mounted up and started working Gold Rush through his paces. The rain and wind were unrelenting. She tried to stay out of the way of other riders though there were only a few. And waited for her and Gold Rush's turn. A gorgeous pale palomino mare with a long white mane floated past to go into the Reining Arena with a rider who both literally and figuratively appeared to have a storm cloud over their head. They performed beautifully and left Aline feeling lacking, but she knew they had probably put in a lot of time in both of their training through the years and was just happy to be able to witness their hard work and training pool together into this moment. She loped Gold Rush around again to keep him and herself warm as the rain had already soaked them both and was sapping their heat. She practiced a smaller slower version of their pattern 4 spins to the right, pause, 4 spins to the left, pause, 2 large circles on the left lead, one small and slow, change to right lead, 2 large circles, one slow, circle left head down to the right side of the arena, roll back, run down the right side to the left go past half way rollback, head back the the right side sliding stop, and back up 10 feet. Good they had it memorized and while she had to correct him on what his leads were; things seemed to go smooth. She knew it wouldn’t be anything like what the other two had done when her turn came, but that was ok. The storm still raged on around them, but Gold Rush was her rock and she would be a dove in the storm The PA announced their names and they jogged into the arena.
