Joe Towne stood before a group of five trick-or-treaters, arching over the flames of his bonfire so that his smiling face was shown in foreboding underlighting.

“And so every Halloween night, the monster of Swallow Falls prowls about these very parts, stalking for prey in the darkness…”

Cal and his friends gave their storyteller a glazed glance of boredom. Just then, they all sat up and gasped with fright as Joe continued pantomiming his story. About twenty feet from behind him was a silhouette that looked exactly like the very creature he was describing at that moment!

“He’s as tall as a man, but as hairy as a wooly mammoth. He walks around on all fours, showing off his drooling, sharp-toothed mouth…”

The kids all huddled close together shivering with fear as their monster snuck closer and closer behind the oblivious redneck.

“And once he’s spotted his prey, he rises up on two legs, raises his arms way up, and then pounces on ya with a great, big-“

“ROOOAAAR!!!”

FWOMP! The leaf-covered figure pummeled Joe to the ground! The children shrieked with fear at first, but then, the leaves instantly fell off his body once he had knocked Joe into the pavement, revealing his true identity.

One child raised an eyebrow. “Wait a minute, that’s not a monster! That’s-

Cal’s eyes went wide. “Flint Lockwood?!”

Flint glanced up from pinning Joe down, snarling and glaring at the kids with his deformed pupils. With a raspy growl, he bounded toward them on all fours as they scattered off toward the suburbs, screaming at the top of their little lungs. Flint then darted his head every which way, looking around for new prey, and raced off toward the town square. Following a hundred feet behind him was Sam Sparks driving Manny, Tim Lockwood, and Officer Earl in Flying Car II…
