I may have figured out a to name Max's aliens, with a bit of weird humor and a bit of dad jokes.

And here is Max as a Pyronite, this is mostly how I imagine Pyronites as they grow older.

As they grow older the heat in their body steadily increases, eventually burning up the rock material in their body. But as they grow older they also learn to properly control the heat expelled so they won't harm other species around them. They form vents that look like mini volcanoes on their body, but on the long run this won't be enough and eventually their core continues to grow hotter. They would keep their core in the center of the body, and try to limit it's heat exit to the vents but this only causes the rock material in the center to burn faster.

This makes their core very vulnerable at this state, so in order to defend themselves they would learn to manipulate the rock material on their arms to form as shields.

As for Max he found out that the fire manipulation to form as shield can be used in other ways such as forming blades or claws out of the hands. But most of the time he expels the bottled up flames unto unlucky enemies.

He also learned to 'fly' by expelling flames from the vents at the back to act like jet thrusters.
