As long as he could remember, Inoji had a crush on Sasuko Uchiha. But now that she was with that baka Naruto, Inoji didn’t know what to do. He was currently sulking, waiting for Lord Tsunasuke to give them their mission. (BTW: Inoji = 17. You = 16)
“Will you get over it, already?” Shikamari yawned. “She’s happy, you should find someone-”
“Be quiet and go make out with Temaru!” Inoji snapped.
“I’m just trying to help, troublesome-baka.” Shikamari muttered.
“Here’s a good mission for you three. Leading Princess [Y/n] back to her village, safely with no injuries.” Lord Hokage said. “All her past escorts have been killed, and or have gone missing.”
“How troublesome.”
“Where’s she from, Lord Hokage?” Cho asked through a mouthful of chips. Inoji always liked Cho, as a sister, anyone who made fun of her weight would have to deal with him!
“The Shadow Village, Hidden in the Darkness.”
“Sounds joyful.” Inoji muttered. “But someone has to do it. We accept.”
“Good, Iruki bring in the Princess.”
“Yes, Lord Hokage.” Iruki left the room, but not before-
“And that DOESN’T mean go make out with Kakashi!”
Inoji and Cho bursted out laughing, while Shikamari just rolled her eyes. After everyone settled down, it took about three minutes before Iruki returned. Her face still a light shade of red.
“Everyone, Princess [Y/n] [L/n]. Heiress to the throne of shadows.” Iruki introduced. The three turned, two bowing politely, one frozen in awestruck. That is THREE MOST beautiful girl Inoji ever saw. Even more beautiful than Sasuko!
The girl stood at [y/h], and had [h/l] [h/c] hair that brought out her [e/c] eyes. She wore a form fitting [f/c] and [2f/c] kimono and wooden sandals. She held a [f/c] fan with a [f/f] design on it.
Inoji would have oggled more, if it wasn’t for Lord Hokage, who punched Inoji’s gut, making him bow in pain.
“Baka, bow when you’re introduced to royalty!” He yelled, looking back to the Princess. “I apologize, Your Highness.”
“It is fine, Lord Hokage.” [Y/n]’s rich voice responded calmly, entrancing Inoji.
“You three will return Princess [Y/n] to her home when you are prepared/ She will be waiting in her carriage at the entrance of the village. Protected by guards. Now, go pack.” Iruki told them. Inoji left, but not without another glance at [Y/n]. Who was looking back at him.
~At Inoji’s Place~
“Inoji, don’t even THINK about it!” Shikamari pleaded. She knew she was being troublesome, but Inoji was being a baka! “She’s a princess, royalty, you are a ninja, who owns a flower shop! You don’t stand a chance!”
“I know, but I can’t help it!” Inoji cried as they left his house. “She’s so beautiful!”
“I understand you like her looks, but you know nothing about her!”
“Yeah, for all we know, she could be more evil than Madara.” Cho pointed out.
“Not you too, Cho!”
~On The Road~
Shikamari was leading, Cho was following from the back, and somehow Cho convinced Shikamari to let Inoji be right next to the Princess. [Y/n] was staring at her lap, looking quite upset. Inoji didn’t like that frown. She looked better with a smile. Just like everyone else. Inoji was about to talk, but [Y/n] beat him to it.
“You do not trust. Do you, Inoji?” [Y/n] asked, not meeting his gaze.
“What? Of course I trust you! Why wouldn’t I!?”
His denial seemed to upset her more. “Because all my guards have died, or disappeared, so far. And I am Princess of the Shadow Village. A village protected by darkness.”
“Princess, look at me.” She glanced at Inoji. “Shikamari’s jutsu’s are based around shadows. And all three of us are ninjas. We’ve killed and we’ve seen people kill others. It’s our job. If I can trust them, I can trust you. And I do.”
[Y/n] said nothing, she just hid her face with her fan.
“Oh, and Princess? You should smile more. You look prettier with a smile.”
[Y/n] was thankful her fan hid her blush. Guilt swelling in her gut.
~That Night~
They were all exhausted. That afternoon, they had been ambushed three times! Each time seeming more and more difficult. The Princess seemed calm during it all, which was strange. Inoji just thought it was because she was used it it by now. She was calm, until Inoji was slashed. The third attack he had been slashed in the gut with sharp, poison filled metal claws. [Y/n] had started to panic and yelled something at the attackers in a different language. They seemed confused, and distracted, Cho and Shikamari took that as a chance to knock them out and tie them to a tree. Letting them escape, after [Y/n] poured something onto Inoji’s chest. It made a sizzling noise, then started to heal as she wrapped bandages around him.
Now that it was night, Inoji felt completely fine, although Cho insisted he kept the bandages on until the morning. Inoji offered for the first night watch. He was always like the older brother of the group, so he noticed right away that the others were dead tired.
When his teammates were snoring, Inoji decided to check on the Princess. He pulled back the curtains of the carriage and saw that she... was crying? Yeah, the beautiful [Y/n], princess of the Shadow Village, was crying. That was worse than just a frown!
“Hey, [Y/n]-chan?” [Y/n] jumped at the sound of his voice. “Don’t worry, it’s just me; Inoji. What’s wrong?”
She looked away from me. “I-I can’t tell you....”
“Yes, you can.” Inoji climbed in and sat next to her. “Please tell me.”
“I... this is all my fault....”
“What is?”
“Everything! You getting hurt, my guards dying and disappearing, EVERYTHING!”
“How is it your fault?”
“I hired the assassins! They were suppose to get rid of my guards so I can run away! But I kept getting caught-”
“WHY would you do that?” Inoji couldn’t believe his ears. How could [Y/n] hired assassins to kill people who cared for her safety!?
“My father arranged a marriage for me....” [Y/n] sighed. “I don’t want to marry who he chose. But my father is a stubborn, prideful man. He threatened my life if I-”
“No.”
“What?”
“No, you’re not going back. I’ll help you get away-”
“We will, too.” Cho’s voice said from behind. Making both [Y/n] and Inoji jump. Cho and a sleepy Shikamari stood next to the carriage. Both smiling.
“We heard everything.” Shikamari yawned. “I’m certain Temaru wouldn’t mind us living in the Sand. His sister, Lady Hokage Garrita, can have that arranged.”
“A-are you sure?” [Y/n] asked, squeezing Inoji’s hand. He squeezed back lovingly. Shikamari smirked.
“Temaru has offered that to me hundreds of times, so we can be closer together. If he can arrange my stay; he can arrange my teams stay. Including Inoji’s new girlfriend.”
[Y/n] quickly grabbed her fan to hide her blush. But Inoji grabbed her hands and kissed them. [Y/n]’s face redder than a ripe tomato.
“ALRIGHT INOJI, getting the girl at last!” Cho cheered him on. Shikamari snickered at this.
“I think it would be best if we got to sleep.... Before Inoji freaks out.” [Y/n[ suggested.
“Something you and I can agree on! Night you three, wake me up before the sunrises and I’ll kill you!” Shikamari said, laying back onto her sleeping bag. Cho giggling and doing the same. Inoji stayed by [Y/n]’s side the entire night, smiling, and thinking about the future.
And yes, the future looked very bright. As long as he had his Princess of Shadows with him.
