Description
Naturally after making an image of my main Kamen Rider, the secondary Rider would be next. Again using Taiko554 ’s old works and Omega-King-DX ’s Crowd-Sourced Kamen Rider process, I have made Kamen Rider Saigai. Like before, the descriptions below are about the designs of these forms; for abilities, see here: www.deviantart.com/randoman92/…The first thing I realized was that secondary Riders generally don’t have as many forms as the main Rider, so instead of making unique forms for the Flood, Tornado, & Blizzard Forms, I made them into “Weapon-Type” Forms; kind of like Beasts’ Mantles or Ghost Kamen Riders transforming directly into Heroic Damashiis. Given that Saigai’s Rider System was fully intended for combat, his forms are fully armored with the exception of Plant Weathering, given how his intended character development plays into it. A general design concept was that Saigai would initially have darker colors and look “meaner” compared to Tenki; I originally used two shades of dark silver, but changed the accenting silver to black when I noticed how similar they were (especially sharing one shade).
Transition- Not a true form, but rather a mid-way point when Saigai switches between his forms. I’d imagine that if Saigai was interrupted when switching forms, this would be the result, and shortly after that the transformation would be canceled. The name and basis of Tenki’s Kottou Driver comes from a curio cabinet, and similarly Saigai’s Mold Driver is named and based on the plastic mold you’d find action figures in; here the Mold Driver is in its starting configuration, with a clear cover over where the Tenkizou would be installed. You’ll notice that on the following forms, each has a design representative of their respective theme.
Flood Weathering- You’ll notice that the designs of this form relate more to tidal wave than flood, but given Japan’s history with tidal waves, I thought that “Flood” might be a bit more tactful of a name. In this form, the wave “flows” from the inner armor to the outer armor, and extends from there.
Tornado Weathering- I actually started designing this Form before the others, though its placement here and use is analogous to Tenki’s Kaze Kishou. My original intention was to replace the inner and outer armor of each limb (reinforcing the fact that this is a combat-centric Rider) with armor resembling each Form’s theme (in this case, tornadoes). At first I was unable to divide the tornado between the two armors, but then I replaced the division on the arm while keeping the whole design between the two pieces. I wasn’t able to come up with altered armor for the legs (though their general shape does slightly resemble the cone shape of a tornado), but still went with a whole design divided by two armor pieces.
Blizzard Weathering- For this Form, I gave the armor spikes resembling icicles, which I designed to appear extending from the inner armor outward. It was my intention that this would give the armor a rough, frozen-over appearance, as opposed to the smooth standard armor.
Quake Weathering- This Form is Saigai’s strongest, controlling both earthquakes and eruptions; so given how closely related the Jishin Tenkizou is to the Ishima, I went with rock-like armor, crimson accents, and made Saigai look even more intimidating. The flame crests are a part of his eyes, like Build’s antennae; and they share a compound-like design that I’m kind of proud of. Originally I wanted to make the eyes a gradient of colors based on Den-O Climax Form’s eyes, but the eyes were too complicated (with palettes for individual pixels).
Plant Weathering- Saigai’s intended Final Form is meant to be analogous to Accel’s transition to Trial Form; exchange raw power for increased agility, so I removed the bicep and thigh armor and exchanged the ankle cuff for armor on the top of the foot. The coattails, mini-mantles, and collar are meant to represent the leaves/vines of plants (being formed by them during transformation), while the armor represents wood/bark. The image on the Mold Driver is meant to be the spirit tree from which the Plant Tenkizou originated from, with sakura petals dropping down from it.
