She broke off, then turned her head slightly.
The little one was sound asleep on her shoulder, happy as he could be in this world. Yet she didn't stop the rhythmic movement of her body as she continued to rock the little one.

If he only knew -what the song was about.

The song...it was soothing, relaxing, she had yet to see a young one not falling asleep to it. Her mother sang it to her when she was young, and her Mother's Mother as it was passed down through the generations from one Mother a very long time ago.
She loved it. But her Mother told her the story behind the song when she was older, and now with a family of her own, she can never sing this song without finding her mind wandering.

It was a long time ago, during the dark times -before the Iron Ranks as they were called, came. The Barbarians was still here, and they hunted the Dragons for the supposed power they had flowing in their blood. Consuming said blood granted one immense power, so they believed. Of course, this was nothing but superstitious beliefs, thought up around some campfire.
The Iron Ranks was the- ehm, more civilized Humans that came from across the Grey Sea. They first made contact with the Dragons much later, and this first encounter led to cooperation between the Iron Ranks and the Dragons, and they defeated the Barbarians.

But sadly for the Mother, this was before that...

The room was dark, but occasionally a yellowish light flared up somewhere outside, and the darkness was disturbed.
The Mother laid the sleeping child down in the cozy nest and with a trembling hand, touched the young one on the cheek.
Her eyes were moist, and she blinked rapidly...but a sudden yell from somewhere outside robbed the softness from her eyes, and replaced the vibrant life with the raging darkness of anger.
She abruptly swung around and started walking towards the loud commotion raging outside, clenching her fists so hard her sharp nails pierced into her skin.

But she did not notice.

The silence that came after the muffled commotion was almost -unreal...and for a few moments the only sound was from the wind that had picked up in the meantime, softly howling somewhere in the darkness of the room.

There was a shuffle, then another one. A figure stepped into the room, unsteadily placing its feet far apart to keep from going off balance as it walked towards the nest until it finally dropped to its knees a few paces from it.
The Mother Dragon stood on her knees, her eyes feverishly examining the little one.

The little one was still peacefully asleep, somehow unbothered by the-...the screaming that sounded earlier.

She smiled, and crawled the small distance on her hands and knees, and finally laying down beside the nest. She curled her body and tail around it, folding one of her massive wings over the tiny sleeping Dragon. She laid her arm around the little Dragon and rested her head beside it, and closed her eyes, a tear creeping down her face.

She-.

The...the little one was going to be alone...alone to face the future she and her mate so badly wanted to be a part of...

But-...her- he was already awaiting her in the Beyond. And soon she will be in his embrace again...and the little one- all alone.

Oh how she wished-...!

She opened her eyes, for the last time admiring the little bundle that brought so much joy to her and her mate. She closed her eyes to open them to her mate where he was awaiting her, somewhere...

Her lips moved, but her voice was trembling, hoarse...growing softer.

' S-sleep softly, my child
When you wake, My heart will guide you
Forever love for you, my...my child...''

She opened her eyes as the tiny Dragon whimpered on her shoulder.
He was fast asleep, wriggling himself deeper into comfort.
The Mother lowered her head against him and closed her eyes, whispering to him.
' Father will be home soon, he will be hungry and tired...it's a hard life to be a Soldier."
For a while longer she stood, and a silent prayer formed on her lips.

Let him be home soon.

She opened her eyes and slowly walked over to the wooden nest, but yet she didn't lay the little one down, but stood, just holding him. Finally she bent over and tenderly laid him down onto the cozy blankets of animal fur, then she went to her knees, lovingly caressing the still-smooth hornless head of the tiny one.

Someday soon, he will be covered in plates of scales like his father, and standing as tall as her, with his own little one...or ones...

She closed her eyes to these thoughts, dreaming of the future until a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind, and a head covered with rough scales rested onto her shoulder.

' My dearest...''

She shut her eyes firmly as tears of joy started flowing freely, a prayer of gratefulness escaping her heart.

He was home...

Heyo all! I pray ur all well, and enjoying a peaceful or eventful weekend (-i pray its good events)

Here's another piece that had been imprisoned in the 'to-be-uploaded' folder, coz of well, i wanted to write something with it but was unable to with the stuff that had been going on. but im glad to finally upload it, tho its neither a draw or write to go crazy over. anyways, i hope its enjoyable someway.

It's set in the world of Rising Beyond, so theres a little lore-ish stuff XD

also, pls excuse if the text is buggy, im trying to fix it. made some badly needed edits too.
