Description This is the Empire, the setting of my non-existant fantasy novel.

'The Empire' is kinda unoriginal for a name but hell its an empire, and its not some cabal of gorups or nations that I name it after like 'the X empire' or 'the empir eof X' etc. It was founded by one man alone, and kept by him, the emperor Shenn. so at times it may be referred to as 'shenn's empire' but other than that its pretty much just plain old 'the empire'

So lets talk about it shall we?

its not entirely finished still needs a crapload of names for rivers and details in the blanker areas but its just conceptual for now.

so this place is mostly temperate, its best if we consider that the whole north south thing is a little askew so the 'equator' as ti would be is at an angle so that hot is to the southwest and cold is to the northeast. which is where we'll start.

You may stop the word 'winter' up in the top right, this is the land beyond the northern borders of the empire, or the world, beyond this like only the cold reigns, trees frozen still in sheiths of ice, snow lies untouched in a tousand years, it is far too cold for anyone or anything to live beyond the map (or is it?). Long ago in the age of chaos the world was the north and there were great cities, no one knows why but evetually people moved south and the land they left behind grew cold.

Between winter and the closest group of moutains is a sort of 'no man's land' out of reach of the empire, it is too cold for the imperial legions to flush out all the brigands and rebels who hide in the cold mountains, so they keep watch here from fort sunder. Fort sunder is a large military fortification, the fort itself is remarkable in the fact it moves, one of the emperor's inspirations, the buildings are modular wooden structures and the fort walls are a mix of ice and sawdust that gives it enough strength and toughness to survie any onslaught. The fort can be packed into wagons and moved, the erection of new ice walls taking only a week or two. Lord Farrean commands from fort sunder, one of the empire's more ruthless generals, he took the position after his disgrace and failure in the last great rebellion, for which some still fault him for causing. The man is now bitter and jaded, twice as dangerous as before.

Bittershore marks the northernmost outpost of humanity, a small fishing village where the rebllious bandits of the north come to rest.

Hollowpeak is the largest of the mountains in the northern range (need a name for em). its cacked top giving its name. Most people think there is northing in there, and most people are wrong, someone lives in hollowpeak.

Below the frozen north is Wild Hoarah, the borderlands between the empire and the northern reaches, mostly baren, hoarah has rich mines but conditions are hard there.

South of Hoarah is Loamas (which includes told and haigen's gap). Temeprate and mostly forest, they export lumber and wool for the empire. they would be peaceful but remour has it bands of rebels move across loamas and abros, and it is only a matter of time before the empire comes to purge them.

Abros to the south is rich in vineyards and forests much like loamas. Gian's coast a rich source of fishing villages and gold-rich mountains.

Old Acrona is the oldest nationon the continent (Pangiana) and once covered much of the midland plains. Acrona was finally ousted at the end of the last great rebellion, its king and queen put to the sword, its prince taekn by the emperor. Now it is just another province, grey and dark as if in mourning.

The midland plains i havent done much on, theyre divided up by the rivers, the Matir (the mother river) splitting into the rest. Will define this area more later.

Ascent is the seat of the empire, the grandest city in all the lands, they say the emperor himself laid out the plans himself. The city is a wonder to behild with its high garden, the great waterfall bridge and the imperial palace set in the river. Ascent is the centre of the empire in every sense of the word.

The west isnt well defined, so needs some work, we have Saleisha, a hot and prosperous province of the empire and the broken isles. At the centre of the west we have the Knarr wastes, a huge desert that stretches on for eternity, bordered by moutains and hills most avoid it, the western peoples call it the walk of death because none return from its reaches.

North of the wastes we has Aisoe, which eludes the emperors grasp, the bottleneck of overland and the tretcherous seas lead to a bloody war between the empire and aisoe over a hundred years ago, now they are at shaky peace, the empire trading captured rebels as slaves as a means of making profit where they cannot merely take the lands.

South of the wasted we have the frontier, much like Aisoe these lands are at war with the empire, yet they never stopped fighting. The frontier marks the boundary of the empire and it has been much on one grain of sand at a time. the imperial legions are commanded from Fort Vien.

Lohridea is the real frontier, the last great city of the frontlines of the empire, the surrounding lands are too inhospitable to field an army across, Lohridea must be taken first. The city itself has been under siege for generations, kept strong by underground rivers and tunnels. There are often skirmished in these parts between the western peoples and the empire, it is a dangerous place.

Thats about it for now, more detail to go on inn the summer when I have time, beyond the edges of the map are the frozen northlands, the free nations in the west and the southern continent that no one knows about.
