When Jacob was very young, his mother past away. His dad remarried soon after but still before Jacob even left elementary school, he had also passed away, leaving him under the care of his step-mother alone.

His step-mother Emily was closer in age to him, only about 15 years his elder. It was kind of like having a permanent older sister. For that reason, she took to caring for him as if he were her younger brother. It was fine for a while, being a single mom caring for Jacob, but as the boy grew into an adult she was beginning to resent him and her life.

She still cared a little for Jacob, she had known him for so long of course, but more and more often she felt unfulfilled. Jacob couldn't find a job, and so the two were relying on welfare and Emily's income. This, coupled with the fact that she had had to stop going to school to raise Jacob, made her feel like taking care of him had frankly ruined her life.

Genies, tend to fix those sorts of problems though, and when Emily happened upon an old incense lamp in an antique store, she had an avenue to rectify all her problems. She'd seen Aladdin enough times to know to rub the lamp, and that's exactly what she did when she arrived back at her humble apartment. When she did, a woman clad in magical smoke and a fairly revealing belly dancer costume emerged, saying "Hey there! I'm the genie of the lamp!"

Emily's face lit up, and the genie recognized this. "I take it you know the drill. You get 3 wishes." Emily began to think very carefully about what she was going to wish for. The genie also clarified, "By the way, cause I'm in a good mood today, I won't twist any of your wishes unless you wish to like rule the world or somethin."

The thought delighted Emily, as she then immediately said, "Then I had a better house!" The genie snapped her fingers and in a flash, the two were a large and well constructed modern house. Emily jumped for joy when she realized it had really worked. She took it all in and she thought of her second wish.

After a bit of thought, she realized she'd never be able to keep the house without a better job than her current fast food one. She told the genie "I wish had a six figure income!" The genie complied, quite happy that for once somebody still intended to work after their wishes. In an instant, Emily had recollections of actually getting to finish her law degree, and now she has the privilege of working for an influential firm that pays incredibly well.

She was thinking about how to use her third wish, when Jacob walked through the door, coming back from another failed job interview. Reality seemed to have changed given that Jacob didn't question the fact that he thought of this incredibly fancy modern home as his place of residence.

Emily spotted Jacob, and for whatever reason, her resentment towards him seemed to boil over. She had the possibility of bending reality itself to deal with him. The question was.. how?
