Description When I was making these mock-ups I was making for my future fimfiction Fanfic that I also wanted to upload here. However when looking back at the mockups I noticed a lot of flaws that went by me. More so in the final one. So I have revised the design to make it more practical and realistic. This is all the revisions going from left to right.
1.Added a wash guard, (apparently called a do. but that makes me confused) this is one of the components that I have honestly forgot about, which is a shame considering this is supposed to be the "best one". And since it would be really useful to keep the turrets from flooding in the rougher seas it would be really nice to have additional protection from deck wash. On a side note the bow was also flared out a bit more so the guns can still just about fire at 0 degrees elevation but adding that little bit more to keep the water out.
2.Reduced flares on the A1 & A4 turrets (or A & Y in RN terms) This is the type of mistake that is very easy to mak when you are working in 2D and only think what looks good. While I do like big flares I later realised when mocking up a top down view that with the given size of turret rings the flares would either inhibit the firing angles or lead to the superstructure being unnecessarily wide. That is not mentioning the additional weight. I am however keeping the flares on the other designs as the smaller turret rings allow it.
3.Breaking up the wedge in the forward superstructure. I thought it would be a good idea to have a continuous wedge at first to make the ship more unique as a lot of IRL ships and some of my sketches had superstructures where the "tower" would be at an angle initially to provide better firing angles and then stop. Not doing that would make the superstructure impossibly wide, making it too bulky.
4. Adding extra distance between the rear funnel and foremast. Having the rear lookout deck pretty much above the funnelcap was pretty dumb so I added a few more feet between the two. It's still not perfect but I wanted to keep the ship relatively compact for what it is.
5.The aftmast was revised to add a few more decks and rangefinders as well as some cosmetic differences.
6.Reduced the overhang on main battery turrets. This I had to do as considering how heavy the main turrets and guns would be AND including the fact that for practical reasons I would like to imagine the hinge being way forward it wold make the turret impossibly forward heavy putting on a risk of tipping over.
7. Added some range finders on turrets A1 & A4 as having their own dedicated range finders would be very practical in a brawl situation where all the other range finds might be occupied with AA, targeting torpedo boats with secondaries and/or serve the other two turrets.
8. Screws have been placed lower down where they would be more effective at propelling the ship forward.
Some other small edits have been made along the way as well.
No specs provided yet as those will be released in when I will actually find the time to get the piece started.
