.....

It's not as awful as I thought it would be.

Mainly when you consider the amount of hell this project must have gone through just to get a trailer out there. Everything from Aliens, Michael Bay directing/not directing, Megan Fox playing April and the fanboys already made up their minds that this movie was going to be awful no matter what. Why give it a chance in the first place? No, I'm not going down that fanboy path for this. I'm better than that!!

Now, in the interest of fairness (and for EggplantWarrior) and to prove this fan of TMNT can be an adult about this. I'm going to tackle the trailer and be objective about it. Point out what works and what doesn't work.

The beginning talks about how "Crime has run rampant" which was a common theme in the original comic and 1980's cartoon series. It's setting up a New York City as it's kinda been played in the past as a stereotypical crime capital. Basically a "Pre-911" New York.

It's funny I make that remark (it's been 13 years already it's hardly bad taste anymore) because one of the next shots is a building blowing up. A clearly white Shredder tells April O'Neil that "The world needs heroes" which is followed by your standard "quick scene then cut to black" formula found in nearly every action movie trailer these days.

I like the fact this trailer has finally put the "Alien Turtles" rumours to rest. A TGRI canister is shown, indicating the traditional TMNT origin is in place..... Kind of. The part that raised my eyebrow was White Shredder saying "That's what your father and I were trying to do!" which means the Turtles were created by The Shredder. Again, not a shocking revelation considering this is technically accurate to the past.

Shredder was directly responsible for the Turtles creation in the 1980's cartoon. However it's that comment I wanna focus on "That's what your father and I were trying to do!" What's interesting is I've seen this exact same narrative used in Ultimate Spider-Man. In that Peter and Eddie Brock's fathers worked on a government project that created Venom. Here the Turtles were a government experiment into creating "heroes".... in a half shell

So the government created 4 mutant steroid Turtles (the size of Kratos Honey Badgers) to be super heroes. So does that mean Splinter won't be in this movie? Because the 4 Turtles I can understand, but why would the government create a Mutant Rat as a hero?

I wanna say that I welcome these changes. Mainly because I don't want to see another movie about the TMNT or another piece of TMNT media tell the same story I already know. It's what I detest with reboots is when they tell the EXACT same story. If the movie was going to tell the same story as the 1990's TMNT then why do I need this new movie when I can go and watch that? I love the origin story for Bruce Wayne and Joker in the 1989 Batman movie. You can't tell the exact same story forever people. Not to mention the very nature of the Turtles origin has been altered every time they get a reboot.

I think what's causing me to be a little reluctant with the changes is they sound too much like Transformers. Secret government projects, military involvements and Megan Fox. I know Bay isn't directing this movie, but this sounds like roads we've already walked down. Not to mention in an earlier draft of the script, the Foot Clan was a black ops unit led by Col. Schrader. It's obvious that bullshit was dropped when Evan Daugherty came in to rewrite the script.

While it's clear Shredder is a scientist now. The site of what look like the foot clan holding assault rifles was somewhat depressing. Because the ancient way of Ninjitsu was clearly based on secrecy, stealth and military hardware am I right?

At least Shredder isn't called Oroku Saki. Instead the more forgettable name of Eric Sachs. This again, is acceptable. Because calling white people Japanese names looked really fucking retarded in Dragonball Evolution. What's confusing about this movie so far is the plot. After watching the trailer, I went to do some info searching the gather up some thoughts for this rant. I found this blurb on Wikipedia which says.

"The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vernon Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan"

Yet the trailer paints Eric/Shredder as a good man trying to make heroes. Yet the plot says he's a crime lord?

Which is it guys?

Lastly, I wanna comment on the lone positive.

Megan Fox didn't say one word in the entire trailer.

Look man, you can't always convert a cartoon character to convincing live action and expect them to look exactly the same.

I know.

To be honest, since this page I've had a different opinion of this movie which I'll get to soon.

My opinion is that: yes, they're way to big, but I think the movie can still be good regardless.

Very true. The movie itself is the final verdict.

Yet I'd argue it never hurts to be skepticle.

I laughed so hard at the revelation that Megan Fox really didn't speak at all.

As for what I think of the movie, the trailer didn't do it justice. They kept a lot out and that may affect their gain of audience (until later trailers are released anyway). Personally, I like the deviation they did with the turtles but I am very, veeery irked by how huge they are. I understand Raph, seeing as how he was always depicted as the muscle of the group, but everyone else? No...
I honestly didn't realize those guys with the guns were the Foot until I read this. They looked nothing like the Foot. I thought they were some special task force gone rogue or something (then again, given how much has changed for this reboot, maybe I should have guessed). And a white SHredder?

About the trailer I'll give the pros and cons.
Pros- I like the CG for the turtles. It looks kind of decent. And I have to say I actually laughed at Mickey's line. It was really funny.

Cons- I think Megan Fox as April O Neel is a miss cast. She looks very bland imho. I would have prefered if they casted either Emma Watson or Ashley Eckstein. But that's just me.

However on the Shredder I do not like this at all. Why did they had to change his character? He's an expert warrior from japan. Changing him to a corporate Norman Osborn clone is awful. I know that the 2k3 version of Oroku Saki was kind of a corporate CEO but at least it made sense within the narrative of the show. In the reboot it seems just half assed. Not to get political but for some reason the way they decide to white wash the Shredder is very similar with the white wash of the Last Airbender movie. And it's funny because both films are being made by Nickelodeon.

Two more problems I have with the film is that from the trailer it seems that the film might take itself WAY too seriously. And the film seems to borrow a bit from the Amazing Spiderman movie in terms of the whole concept of the creation of the turtles.(In which April's father worked with the shredder to create the Turtles while Richard Parker worked with Oscorp). That is where it's making me feel a bit concerned.

Will I watch the film? No not really. It doesn't seem interesting. I'll just wait till reviews come out to see if it's ok or not.

I'm not a big TMNT fan but I didn't have much of an issue with this trailer as well, although it does have a few things that kinda bother me like the direction that feels like Michael Bay even though he isn't directing and the questionable casting of April O'Neal and Shredder.

Also why reveal Shredder's face already? Wouldn't that spoil the surprise or is it going somewhere different with his character?

I'm kinda split on this. One on hand it seems they've got the turtles personalities down to a similar level which I really appreciate, they've thankfully thrown away the alien idea, and the CGI doesn't look that bad. On the other hand, Megan Fox is only here to just stand about again, it looks like we're going to focus more on the humans again, and Michael Bay, again.

I mean who knows? Maybe? Maybe not? At the very least I hope it's a fun drunk rental. Ah well, all aboard the SoSo Don't Know Probably Train Wreck.

I'm not even going to waste the bandwidth by torrenting this film, it's going to make the third TMNT film look like a masterpiece.

In Dragonball Devolution's defense, a white guy playing Goku isn't too bad considering he's an alien. I still think this movie's going to suck thick turtle penis.

I'm honestly not sure why you worried about trying to be more fairness just because I whined about an odd bit in an otherwise-great rant about how the latest marvel movies have doing a pretty bad job hyping Avengers 2, especially when it comes to this of all things.

I mean, when it came to the Guardians of the Galaxy, the trailer didn't make it seem too bad, what with there being no noticable problems about it from my perspective, and that's why I questioned the "no 1 curr" argument. Not to sound like a pretentious hipster here, but it feels like, for that particular movie, that it was complaining because the Guardians weren't "mainstream" enough to deserve a movie. When it comes to this trailer, there's quite a few things to actually complain about; the shredder's alter ego was replaced for no reason, April's played by Megan Fox of all people (Seriously I think Mikey B. has some kind of fetish for putting her in movies for some god forsaken reason) and the Foot have become Black Ops wannabes, I'm pretty sure at least some form of vitriol was granted with this trailer.

I never really meant for you to change what you say in your rants over one comment from an internet nobody, I kind of just questioned your criticisms for that one movie and that was about it.

Then again, maybe I fucked up how I phrased that last comment a shitload.

Anyways, on a brighter note, considering you had yet to address this...

Sooooooomebody once told me the sewers were gonna roll me, I ain't the sharpest tool in the shell~...

My best theory regarding Shredder is that there's gonna be a predictable heel-face turn, revealing Shredder was using the turtles as a cover-up to his own ambitions.

That, or the trailer messed up.
