What do you mean Jhonen? You're a great writer besides Gaz, Taster of Pork, mean you've certainly learned your lesson.... right? PLEASE TELL ME I'M RIGHT!

No, no, m.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIV… . So what was wrong with this comic? THE SAME EXACT REASON AS GAZ, TASTER OF PORK! And yet, this is worse! You wanna know why? Gaz is torturing Dib for what? Landing her in the hospital? No. Destroying her most prized possession? No. No, she, gets this, tortures Dib for interrupting her videogame tournament! m.youtube.com/watch?v=2k0SmqbB… .
By the way, I'd just like to say that I don't like Gaz in the comics. Mean I don't hate her but it just seem like all of her personality was kind of, "upped." She used to be a little girl who'd do little petty threats. Now she goes out of her way to torture others lives. She used to play videogames. Now she's a freaking COD kid. And Jhonen calls her in the comics, "more fleshed out." Uh, fleshing a character out is giving them more traits, personality, and interesting. Just flanderizing every part of their personality is not, "fleshing out." And you see more of Gaz, you see, with a character like Gaz, you gotta spare her from the audience. Mean just imagine seeing Lola Loud ALL the time in the Loud House. You see, when a character is a huge jerk, you wanna spare them as much from the audience as possible. Anyway let's just begin.
So this peice of crap comic starts with Gaz playing on an online tournament with what I'm guessing is an oculus rift thing. AND HOLD UP! Jhonen, you do realize that Oculous Rifts don't work with consoles. Or am I just uniformed? By the way, how did these guys go from people who knew so well about the culture of videogames to a couple of parents who think playing games is just "Oh those kids being on dere devices."
Anywho, Dib goes into the room and tells Gaz to get the heck off. She says no, obviously. But Dib turns it off. And Gaz acts like it was the world falling apart. Which is some typical Gaz-centric humor, the problem is that they don't really make it humorous enough, it would've been funnier if she fell to her knees and screamed, "NOOOO!" Or something like that. Anywho Dib takes her just to see Dib's camera of Zim yelling at a cat.
ANYWHO BLAH BLAH BLAH DIB GETS PICKED UP BY GAZ IN A ROBOT SUIT- wait hold up. So Membrane gives up Dib's life to Gaz, for a breakfest robot? That isn't funny, that's just very depressing. Like seriously, YOU CAN TORTURE DIB CORRECTLY! First off, DON'T MAKE IT SAD! Secondly, DON'T SHOVE IT IN OUR FACES, THAT'S WHY ALMOST EVERY OTHER MEGWARD THE WIZARD HAS FAILED!!!! Anywho Gaz in her robot, plans to torture Dib by controlling him in videogames to get hurt. You do realize this is LEGITIMATE TORTURE! Heck, they made a special one for him so he can get his butt spanked. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The torture of the innocence is funny!!! LAUGH AT IT!!! Seriously Jhonen, stop smoking that weed.

Dude not literally. *sigh* Anywho then Gaz reveals it's her, he takes her to the pizza place. Then she tells a, "ANGRIEST FLASHBACK EVER!" Seriously is that funny because she's angry? Is anger funny? I don't get it. Anywho this.. is sadistic. Now I'm not saying original Gaz was sadistic either but she had.... A LIMIT!!! This and Gaz, Taster of Pork, flanderize her to the point where she eats puppies for breakfest and lights fire to orphanages for fun. Uh yeah, Gaz isn't that evil. Not even close. Most people in the Invader Zim fanbase see Gaz as if she's like, Satan's daughter. When really when you look at it. All she did in the cartoon besides Gaz, Taster of Pork was petty little threats, maybe a bit of physical violence (but not that much), and only OCASSIONALLY got farther than that (Game Slave 2).
Anywho Gaz throws Dib back to his torture. THE LITERAL TORTURE OF THE INNOCENCE IS.... FUNNY! Until he forgives. Oh we got a rancid moral, uh, was Invader Zim really the cartoon for morals? Mean don't get me wrong, the moral it teaches is great, respect other's free time and don't force them to do what you want to do (Heck TTG taught that one time I think, and now that I think about it, the fact that TTG didn't teach a rancid moral is incredible). But you see, all this execution proves nothing to this. It just feels really forced, and plus. From what I've seen, GAZ SHOULD GO TO A FREAKING INSANE ASYLUM! Mean, she's literally TORTURING her brother, for shutting off her console...... yeah. Tbh now I just wanna throw Gaz in a volcano. And for all I know, Gaz DESERVES Dib's annoyance. In fact, DIB!

You and I are SO on the same page here.
I was really excited when I heard JV wanted to flesh out Gaz's character in the comics (I am also one of those who, despite her Dib abuse, still likes her), so I'm still waiting for that to happen. All I've seen so far is she's more of a hardcore gamer, but all they did was Flanderize another trait of hers to the extreme-- not exactly character development. And I've NEVER liked the 'Dib torture porn' aspect, not just with Gaz but with the entire show. Dib is my favorite character for a lor of reasons, and I really do root for the poor kid and believe he gets tortured WAY too much. I mean I know JV is all about cruel humor, and it CAN work, but not when your protagonist is always destined to fail. That's not only not funny and cruel-- it's BORING. I'm tired of the same old joke-- No matter what, Dib loses in the end/is humiliated/is tormented, everybody LAUGH AT HIS PAIN!!!! I like a lot of JV's humor and I genuinely think he can be funny, but I don't think everything he does is gold, and the 'Gaz tortures Diib' thing is just really, REALLY played out, and unnecessary. For me with this issue, and 'Gaz Taster of Pork' their saving graces are the artwork/production design. I may loathe that episode, but I do admire the design and animation aspect of it, as well as the artwork in the comic. But seriously, Jhonen... enough with the Dib torture porn already -_- Seen it, been there, done that, sick of it. And just once... ONCE... Gaz should get some comeuppance.
BTW-- A little spoiler if you haven't read it already, but issue #8 has a nice change for once at the end. I was pleased ^^ although Dib did come off as kind of a jerk a few times, so my feelings are mixed. But that's for another review. I hope you keep doing these, cause they are REALLY good and insightful

Well thank you, and Dib is my second favorite character. (Only rivaled by GIR). Anywho, I laugh at some of Dib's torture because, first off most people who torture him are seen as morally wrong

And most of what he gets is verbal abuse, which isn't good, but hey it's still better than a specific toenail ripping of scene

The reason I don't laugh at Gaz torturing him because it's much more cruel most of the time, which I could excuse except... flanderization yadayada. And plus, what's so funny about LEGIT TORTURE! If you laugh at that, that's basically laughing at rapist doing his/her work.
Just one last thing, what do you mean by, "these," my reviews or my reviews about these GOD awful Gaz torture Dib stories.

By 'these' I meant your 'Gaz Taster of Pork' review, since that was the only other one I'd seen, but now I see you have more I think I'll go look at those too.
And yeah, Dib encountering conflict is to be expected (or else there would be no story), and I don't have a total problem with people saying he's crazy or not believing him because that's just his lot in life and sort of essential to his character. And actually most of the time that sort of thing makes me like him even more (case in point: Even though the kids in 'Room with a Moose' are just horrible to him, seeing how he was bullied made me relate to him and want to root for him even more). I just feel like having him lose or be humiliated ALL the time gets old. But yes, it does seem unnecessarily cruel in Gaz's case, and even more so I think when his own damn father helps her do it just because it's for SCIENCE!!! True, all this feeds into the 'feeling sorry for the poor kid' factor in my case, and yes part of that is why I love him because I DO feel tremendously bad for him, but sometimes it just goes too far. And you're absolutely right-- with Gaz, she is NEVER portrayed as morally wrong for inflicting unimaginable pain on her brother for the tiniest of offenses. Her actions are always justified, especially later on in the show and comics, so apparently unleashing all hell because Dib turned off her game or something is perfectly cool. And dammit I wanna LIKE Gaz! Maybe cause, like you pointed out, she didn't start off as Satan's daughter but just anti-social and making petty threats.

Two things,
1. It seems as if you like Dib only on the sole purpose of sympathy. I like Dib because he's just a quirky little kid. Just saying.
2. Yeah, it seems like people PRAISE Gaz because, "hey she threatens to unleash flesh eating robots on dib, but thats perfectly fine because, he wronged her." Even if story has a character torturing a character just on the sole purpose of, "he/she wronged him/her."

Not at all-- I didn't say that was the ONLY reason Dib's my favorite character, though I'd be lying if I said my sympathy for him didn't factor into it in some small part. I love an underdog-- sue me ^^ All I said was I can relate to how he's bullied and put down, but it's how he handles these situations-- not caring what people think, just marching to his own beat and continuing to do what he thinks is right-- where he truly shines. Dib IS destined to fail and he knows it, he IS the butt of ridicule, IS called crazy, IS tormented by the people who should care about him most, and has an all-round pretty horrible existence, but he still gets out of bed every morning to face it all with that inextinguishable enthusiasm of his that I absolutely love. His quirks (the paranormal obsession, the talking to himself, the cool outfit) are just an added bonus, but it's that 'never give up' core of his being that has cemented him in my mind for so many years.

Words cannot describe how glad I am that there are more people than just me and my itty bitty friend group who LOATHE the torture-porn-esque nature of this... /thing/.
I bought issue 1 on release date, expected nothing groundbreaking but something at least decent, was //utterly disappointed// by the one-sided Megward-y torment (YOUR BUTT MONKEY HAS TO AT LEAST DESERVE IT TO SOME DEGREE, GUYS) and the failed humor (fart jokes? REALLY? they're dipping THAT low ALREADY??), got issue 2 /solely/ to finish that plot thread, was disappointed even further, and hid both of them in the back of my closet forever. BUT THAT WASN'T EVEN THE WORST OF IT, NO SIREE... I don't even have standards for this comic series anymore. It's just dead to me.

I think the comics are decent, mean not as good as the show, but still. Anywho, yeah I hate "Gaz torture Dib" things. Because most of the time, they flanderize Gaz to a point where "cruel" cannot describe her and Gaz get's no punishment or learns her lesson. Because, doing the following is morally correct in JV's eyes!
-Threatening to kill them
-Sentencing them to clean a really dirty toilet with their head for the rest of their life.
-Legitmate torture

Exactly! At least in, for example, Battle-Dib, she gets SOME sort of comeuppance with the pizza thing (and goading on whatshisname was nowhere near as jerkish as DEATH THREATS, anyway). Issue 5? Nothin'. Nothing close.

I know, most people in the Invader Zim fanbase think Gaz has no limit to her cruelty. When really, when you think about it. All she really does is petty little threats (And by the way, G,ToP I get mad at because she has the robots so she could actually do the threat she's saying) and maybe some violence. Yet people think she's like, cruel to the point of G,ToP levels. I like Gaz, but in her bad appearances. I just want to throw her purple haired body in a fucking volcano.

Gaz is mostly just grumpy, yeah. The worst she's done (sans GToP) is stalk an obnoxious kid (hell, she was even still willing to pay him for the thing near the end!) and beat up an obnoxious robot. Oh, and BD, too, but that was still pretty tame.
It's disappointing whenever people think that the flanderized episodes are the accurate episodes. It's like... no.

Yeah, it's like if people thought pre-movie Squidward was a murderer just because he was grumpy. To be honest I think less fanfics would portray her the way they do if Gaz, Taster of Pork never was made/written differently.

If it's any consolation, the early synopsis for Issue 14 suggests that Gaz is going to have to suck up to Dib in order to get what she wants for once.

Actually JV's favorite character is Dib. He likes writing for Gaz, though. And to be honest there's this voice in my brain that is saying:
"Jhonen will make her stand up to Dib even though she lost all sympathy since Gaz Taster of Pork."
I dunno, if that does happen, expect another review from me.
