Say life is a road.
It changes with time, from multi-laned stretches to single-laned doozies.
It has a start and an end, though impossible to see often.
Sometimes it slows to a sluggish 15 mph, sometimes it speeds to a breathtaking 75 mph.
But it continues, nonetheless.

You can see an intersection, a crossroads further down at the horizon.
After following the singular, lonely highway for so long, you don’t particularly care to decide which direction to take.
You try to avoid it as you may, taking several detours, unsuccessfully, or slowing down, disturbing all traffic behind.
Of course you can’t make a U-turn, that would be time travel.
But eventually you must go through the crossroads.

Well, it’s not much of a crossroads per se; more like a T-intersection.
You can continue down the highway as before, or you can take a right onto a side road.
Both directions are dark and obscure.
The first is similar to before, seemingly smooth and defined,
But your gas tank is running low and you don’t know how much longer it’ll last.
The second is gravely and rugged with many dips,
But there is a gas station near by, if you can get past the unkept road.

Both paths look daunting and impossible in their own lights.
You would love to just pull over and stop, not continuing down this highway any longer.
But someone, something is expecting you home. And you’re expecting them.
